Meeting was called to order by John Ott at 4:30 p.m. Minutes of the November 7, 2007 meeting were approved as presented. There was an introduction of those in attendance.

Ted Curtis gave a report on the status of GetAbout Columbia budget, education, public relations and infrastructure (presentation attached).

Dan Smith reported the Public Relations Committee will review a draft contract for Phase II in the coming months.  Janet Godon reported on the success of the Way to Go to Work program. The group interacted with over 1,600 cyclists and pedestrians during commuter kudos week, held four lunches which had 70 participants total, and received 115 entry forms which were entered for a grand prize drawing. There were 4,750 people who signed up for Bike, Walk and Wheel Week in 2008.

Curtis reported that the striping and marking of bike lanes has been subcontracted out to be done in the Fall 2008 and Spring 2009.  The Mayor recommended taking the Old 63 project back to the Infrastructure Committee to get their input regarding pedways verses bike lanes.  It was also recommended to do more education on bicycling due to the number of bike crashes in Columbia.

The Mayor asked the committee for their opinion on whether to meet more often, since the full committee had not met since November 2007. The majority felt once or twice a year was sufficient since the two subcommittees (Outreach and Infrastructure) meet on a regular basis.

Steve Saitta talked about their report on trail surface standards.  A question was asked about whether City Council would understand and support new guidelines and the need for ADA accessible trails. The Parks Department has prepared a report, which will be shared with the Bike Ped Commission to get their feedback and support.  It was recommended the report be presented to and approved by the GetAbout Columbia Advisory Committee before taking it to City Council for approval.  A question was also asked if the City Channel could be used for more educational programs related to the GetAbout program such as what bike lanes and sharrows mean, street sweeping of bike lanes and impact on the trees in the new trail areas.

Next meeting:  TBD

Meeting adjourned.
