Meeting was called to order by Mayor Darwin Hindman at 4:30 p.m.
Mike Vangel presented a proposal to the committee for a new branding campaign, which is part of their contract with the city. Per the scope of services, Vangel is to create and produce a brand campaign for the program, which includes a name, logo and positioning statement. The previous name "The PedNet Project: Connecting Columbia" has created much difficulty with name recognition and confusion between the city and the PedNet Coalition nonprofit organization. Mike Vangel explained to members that Columbia has a better chance of demonstrating a modal shift by investing in a brand/identity that incorporates and represents all the different aspects of the project including physical infrastructure, education and encouragement programs, awareness of the benefits to both individuals and community and more, in a cohesive, simple, all inclusive and consistent way.
The name presented is "GetAbout Columbia" with a positioning statement "See where it takes you." After discussion, John Riddick made a motion to approve the new name and positioning statement and present it to City Council for final approval, Naomi Cupp seconded, motion approved. Bob Walkters and Karl Kruse abstained from voting.
Approval of Minutes: Minutes of the May 22, 2007 meeting were reviewed with two corrections noted. Naomi Cupp should be moved from the absent list to present, and add the word "city" to parking garages needing enhanced bike parking. Jay Lindner made a motion to approve the minutes with the two corrections, Naomi Cupp seconded, motion approved.
Project Manager's Report: Ted Curtis reviewed the network of nine projects and where projects were in the process of approval. Curtis said the other three pilot communities were progressing about the same as Columbia.
