Project Status: Subcommittee Co-chairs gave overview of Non-Motorized Transportation Pilot Program.

European Bike Facilities Power Point: Subcommittee reviewed power point presentation about bike facilities in Holland and Germany.

Discussion: There was discussion about the subcommittees responsibilities which include advertising, literature development, speaker's bureau, and marketing messages. Should the subcommittee develop a name for the committee? Can the committee use the Columbia Channel for promotion the pilot program and for gathering input? Ross indicated that the Columbia Channel is available, among other communications channels. Committee should first develop a plan.

Subcommittee needs to develop messages, goals, objectives, communication channels (City Source citizens newsletter, Columbia Channel, website, brochures neighborhood associations, news media, talk shows, Public Service Announcements, etc.), citizen input, public forum, etc.

Three groups that we are trying to reach:

  • Those already biking
  • Those who never bike
  • The group in the middle

Outreach efforts should be targeted toward editors, schools, neighborhoods, and others.

Need to develop a budget for marketing and outreach.

Should involve the public in a naming contest. This is a way to get buy-in from the ground up. Use a name drop ox. Use film clip.

Information table at festivals.

Develop a promotion/education plan> Ross to provide copies of communications plans prevously used.

Develop logo.

Some task assignments:
Brad: Naming contest and message development
Karl, Pat and Ross (staff coordination): Sample communications plans
Naomi: Research other places
Dan: Find out what other three cities/communities are doing.
