Trails Subcommittee Meeting

New Facilities Discussion:

FHWA course on bicycle & pedestrian transportation

• Robert Johnson from existing facilities gave his thoughts on bike lanes vs. sidewalks & how sidewalks are not a good option for bikes.

• Open discussions on bike lanes vs pedways or sidewalks

• Key to the issue is intersections and how they are dealt with

• Best opportunity for a bike lane is when building a new roadway

Update from executive committee

• Potential to swap around funds for projects on the drawing board, but several years out

Other updates

• Trying to set a deadline to get our priority list kicked out

• Dave Nichols will work on adding trails to our master map based on our suggestions

• Once this is done, we can distribute it and meet one week after everyone has a chance to review.

Jay will get with Dave next week to touch base on map.
