New Facilities Discussion
Discussed bike tour put on by existing facilities subcommittee. Fred Schmidt explained details.
Updated everyone on executive committee progress.
New Facilities
Talked about South Providence. Dave Nichols will get info on City's plans. Also planning for walks along outer road. Pedway plan is in median.
Columbia Schools: Looked at district maps. Most principals are looking at ways to encourage pedestrians.
Talked about GIS Program being developed to identify sidewalk issues and problems.
Lemone Blvd. to the west on Grindstone is tough area. Could a pedway be added to side of bridge?
Worley St.—gaps in existing where a number of kids walk
Stadium area by Mall. TDD work in 2007. Are mid-block crossings advisable?
Stewart/Providence—how much is it costing to go under and can that be done in other areas?
Are there standards on what qualifies for a pedway?
Are mid-block walks good? This is where pedestrians stop traffic to cross a road.
Consider an underpass standard for when new intersections go in.
Need to get a map pulled together with existing and proposed trails on one document.
Do we have a balance determined as to what type of facilities and how many of each should be allocated?
List groups we need information from and what info we need—everyone bring suggestions to our next meeting.
