Questions were brought up about the questions being asked in the initial survey phase oft his project.
Informed everyone that the next meeting with all members of the transportation pilot program will be June 15, 2006 at 4:30 p.m., Mizzou Arena.
New Facilities Discussion
Need to prioritize connections—major employers and large neighborhoods should be looked at closely.
Brief talk on pedways vs. paths on roadways.
We should look into connectors to neighborhoods where traffic is not a problem.
Idea brought up to widen shoulders in areas close to trailheads to create a safer situation.
We need to review and work with proposed road projects to make sure pedways are adequate—Scott Blvd., Range Line, etc.
Our committee needs to list projects we can get done quickly to take to the executive committee. This should include neighborhoods that can easily be checked off the list.
Discussion over safe routes to/from schools:
- The availability of bike racks at all schools will need to be looked into.
- There may be security issues for kids leaving bikes unattended at school.
- Jr. Highs and elementary schools may have a better chance of encouraging Non-Motorized transportation.
- We should look at the district maps to see which schools have a smaller "trade area," and therefore more potential for walking and biking.
- Area around Rock Bridge elementary does not have connections to any sidewalks/pedways.
Old 63 again brought up as a concern:
- One option could be to widen the pedestrian sidewalk on the west side of the road.
- How to get across intersection of Stadium and Old 63—existing trail that leads up to Ashland Gravel Road.
Decided that everyone will bring a list of their top 10 priorities for new facilities to next meeting.
General Discussion
Concerns about the feasibility of ridrs "cleaning up" at work after riding their bike. Ideas brought up to approach larger employers to have them survey employees and find out how many would consider alternative ways to travel to/from work.
Meeting adjourned at 5:05 p.m.
