IIf you’re like me, you like to make time to exercise every day, even in short bursts. The problem is, when you’re traveling, fitting into a tracksuit often requires careful planning and high hopes for an uncrowded, well-stocked hotel gym—which doesn’t exactly lend itself to the laid-back vacation vibe.
It was a time anyway. Nowadays, more and more hotels recognize the ever-growing interest in fitness and are working to cater to the wellness-oriented customer. Where some hotels have teamed up with popular studios to offer group fitness classes (Orangetheory partnered with The Boca Raton in 2018, for example), others have partnered with boutique fitness brands to revamp their gyms (for example, Hilton has committed to added at least one Peloton bike in each of its more than 5,000 fitness centers).
And now, more and more hotels are going so far as to improve not only their common exercise areas, but also their in-room fitness offerings.
“We’re finding that travelers are looking for enhanced fitness amenities that can be customized to their bodies and fitness goals – they demand flexibility and convenience; a simple treadmill or on-site cardio class no longer helps,” says Steve Wightman, president of Wynn Las Vegas.
So if you’ve been hoping to book a vacation that doesn’t derail your fitness goals, read on for eight hotels that embrace in-room fitness in a major way.
1. Wynn Las Vegas
While Wynn Las Vegas has long catered to fitness enthusiasts with its 6,722-yard championship golf course and partnership with Clean Market’s SoulCycle and NutriDrip, as well as a fitness center (recently upgraded with state-of-the-art TechnoGym equipment), the brand’s new Wynn Initiative Living Well, which launched this January, makes the experience even more personal with 30-minute in-room workouts from Amanda Klutts, founder of AK Fitness.
If digital workouts aren’t your thing, Wynn Las Vegas also offers guests the option to book one-on-one treatment sessions with the TB12 Body Coach. “Co-founded by Tom Brady and his body coach Alex Guerrero, TB12 emphasizes muscle recovery and injury prevention through a holistic approach to flexibility, nutrition, hydration, movement and mental fitness to achieve longevity and a pain-free life,” says Whiteman.
2. EVEN hotels
While many hotels are just now getting on board with the in-room fitness trend, EVEN has been committed to the idea since 2015. “Our in-room fitness is the best driver of preference among our target guests,” says Raul Ortiz, vice president of global marketing and brand management for EVEN Hotels. “Currently, 80 percent of guests who book with us plan to exercise in their room, and most do so after staying with us.”
All guest rooms offer an in-room fitness experience along with free access to the latest on-demand classes, according to Ortiz. “During your stay, you can expect your room to be equipped with a yoga mat, yoga block, foam roller, resistance bands and stability ball,” he says.
And that’s just for standard accommodation. Deluxe rooms feature dedicated “fitness zones” complete with wall hooks, TRX straps and other equipment for strength and endurance training. Then there are premium rooms that include an interactive spin bike along with all the accoutrements of deluxe and standard rooms.
3. Suitable hotels
Wellness is a big part of the Proper Hotel experience, which is why the brand offers a wide range of spa treatments at its destination spas (Surya Spa in Santa Monica and Verbena Spa in Austin), along with complimentary weekend yoga and HIIT classes. Additionally, each Proper Hotel features a state-of-the-art, 24-hour fitness center to offer guests space to explore strength training, weight training and cardio.
But recently, Proper Hotels partnered with The Class, a cathartic workout experience loved by celebrities like Emma Stone and the New York City sweat crew, to create an in-room fitness experience. What’s more, guests have access to Therabody percussion massage tools, yoga mats, and yoga bands (all of which are available upon request from the front desk). And if you stay in a suite, you’ll have the option of a Peloton bike in the room.
