A man was found dead in NW Lincoln Lake after a report of a submerged car

A man died Saturday morning after a car went into Bowling Lake in northwest Lincoln Saturday morning, Lincoln police said.

Around 5:15 a.m. Saturday, police received a call about a car found in Bowling Lake, which is near Lincoln Airport. When Lincoln Police and Lincoln Fire and Rescue crews arrived, they found vehicle tracks leading to the southeast side of the lake and noticed that the top layer of ice on the lake had been breached, LPD said in a news release.

A lifeboat and dive team went into the lake to make sure there were no passengers in the vehicle. They initially found the car loose, but after further searching the lake with the help of Nebraska Game & Parks officials, they found a dead man in the water around 11:40 a.m.

Police said they have identified the dead man but are not releasing his name pending notification of family members. He is believed to be the same person who called 911 about the car.
