Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, the Village of Gilberts and the National Fitness Campaign recently announced an agreement to provide Gilberts with an outdoor fitness court. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on October 19 at Town Center Park.
This fitness court was developed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois, the Village of Gilberts and the National Fitness Campaign to expand free access to high-quality exercise and create equitable access to exercise for communities across the state. The Fitness Court is the world’s best outdoor gym, allowing people to use their own body weight to get a full workout using seven exercise stations.
Designed with people aged 14 and over and all abilities in mind, the workouts are adaptable for all fitness levels, allowing participants to move at their own pace. Users can also download the free Fitness Court app, which acts as a trainer in your pocket and enhances outdoor fitness in a digitally powered wellness experience.
“Regular exercise is essential to maintaining personal health and reducing health care costs,” said Katie Kangemi, senior program officer for community investment, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois. “Blue Cross is committed to promoting better health in our communities, and this Fitness Court® makes it easy for anyone at any fitness level to get a good workout outdoors, connect with neighbors and stay healthy.”
“The Village is excited to add this unique amenity to Town Center Park and our neighborhoods. Through the Fitness Court, we are excited to be able to provide fitness opportunities to all ages and ability levels in our community,” said Guy Zambetti, Village President.
“National Fitness Campaign is proud to welcome the Village of Gilberts to the campaign as a leader in Illinois, advocating for the health and well-being of its residents,” said Mitch Menaged, founder of National Fitness Campaign. “We’re proud to continue our mission to get people moving outdoors and help communities combat the fiscal and humanitarian costs of inactivity.”
