Azealia Banks on Australia: ‘culturally outdated white nation’

As far as Australia is concerned, Azealia Banks is getting no love.

In a series of Instagram stories shared yesterday (May 7), Banks wrote about how her recent single ‘New Bottega’ has been treated in Australia, claiming a ‘bad remix of my main track’ was released there instead of the preferred version. She writes more about the song and her record deal before going after Australia and its music industry more generally.

“I don’t think they realize how insignificant they are as far as music culture is concerned, because they delude themselves into thinking that their whiteness makes Australia the A market, when really it’s a CD market,” Banks said. “Brazil is a MUCH more important market for music than Australia. (this is mostly because Australia has an extreme dearth of internationally appetizing talent outside of Kylie Minogue, INXS and AC/DC, {tame impala is just cute to me and wolfmother is excellent – but clearly an American rock tribute band}.”

She continued: “Australia doesn’t really have a lot of music acts that anyone really cares about globally because they’re in a vacuum of off-brand British culture,” noting that she believes they’ve “actually created one of the most culturally stagnant white nations on the planet.

“Sidebar: I’m reading this article in the Guardian about the ever-declining and insignificant Australian music industry and I have SO MANY THOUGHTS AND COMMENTS, but the delusions of the Australian music artists quoted in this article are bloody amazing and make it clear to me how pure jealousy, racism and desperation allowed @sweatitoutmusic to purposely sabotage a real hit instead of their fragile fragile egos and DESPERATE attempts to try and steal my IP. The Australian music industry is so bereft of internationally appealing talent that they have literally bullied, threatened, threatened and corruptly stolen my IP. Let’s dive deep.

the version of my song New Bottega the Aussies released as The Last Composition is actually a bad remix of my Master Track and shouldn’t be titled ‘New Bottega’.

There is no language to say that all “leftover ideas” do not belong to me. Because they essentially treated the fully mixed mastered single as a throwaway when they owned it the whole time, the song’s split wasn’t sealed once it was done,
and they have nothing with my signature confirming “New Bottega” as a song that fits the parameters of the original contract.

They left it as “TBD” which was stupid of them. So they basically denatured my intellectual property, cherry picked what they wanted from it and fraudulently presented it to the world AS written in the song EYE. And they released it, so that’s the only version of the song they claim. My Sony atv deal specifically states that I am not allowed to assign control over my posts/vocals etc. to any entity. Again, I was very sick when I signed the deal and I really just signed it so they would stop calling me at 2am and let me rest. The fact that they are adamant in trying to own something that won’t make them money without my involvement is stupid. The fact is they are so obsessed with owning my vocals but they are adamant about treating me badly and adamantly not investing in such a massive song (tik tok stats and year end best lists literally proved that that the product works, what’s the point of changing that?) is literal bullshit. Whatever remix they put out, it’s not “New Bottega.” So they have no right to title their remix as such. “New Bottega” is my intellectual property and time has proven that these Aussies have no idea how to sell this song, absolutely no knowledge of the big business that is American female rap, or how to engage with Azealia Banks and use the power of her already established international fanbase in their favor… here I am LITERALLY telling them how to excite my fans – and they take it as an insult.

For the record. “New Bottega” by Azealia Banks is a hip hop record. This is not a dance record. Categorizing it as a dance record was their first marketing misstep. Obviously, there is a cultural dissonance here. Hip-hop is the highest-grossing music genre in the world right now. EDM is fucking dead. For people who are so eager to try and own the rights to my vocals, you would THINK they have a ton of money to go along with all the empty and baseless threats to sue me. (lmao he can’t judge me for not being involved in promoting the garbage.) if they were good crooks – at least they would keep their racism a secret long enough to take a picture and video of me so they have assets for promoting your crap c) To all dsp c*cksucking @sweatitoutmusic tried to prove to me that their marketing strategy was better than mine – registering it as a dance song was the most anti-algorithmic shit a dickrider algorithm could have Done. Damn stupidity.

The Australian media/music/entertainment industry isn’t exactly heralded by government leaders or anyone else in the world as a desirable cultural export, I don’t think they realize how insignificant they are when it comes to music culture because they are deluded into thinking that their whiteness makes Australia an A market when it’s really a CD market. Brazil is a MUCH more important market for music than Australia lmao. (this is mostly because Australia has a huge lack of internationally appetizing talent apart from Kylie Minogue, INXS and AC/DC, {tame impala is just cute to me and wolfmother is excellent – but clearly an American rock tribute band }

Australia doesn’t really have many music acts that anyone really cares about globally because they’re in a vacuum of off-brand British culture. It may be because it is so out of the way geographically and how aggressive, barbaric, oppressive and violent they have been to the very existence of the local black peoples that they have actually systematically trampled on their own country’s ability to develop their own musical /art culture – instead of looking to England and the US for ideas to throw up, not realizing that the reason the Aussie music industry and Aussie culture is so rubbish is BECAUSE of their country’s historical post-colonial obsession, I guess, trying to prove England and the monarchy that they – a legion of convicts / mentally insane social rejects – were in fact a true white / anglo-saxon society – using the slaughter / subjugation of black / indigenous peoples (blatant destiny nonsense) and the theft of their land as a mark of national strength

But they have actually created one of the most culturally stagnant white nations on the planet.

THE FACT THAT THESE AUSTRALIAN MUSIC ARTISTS COMPLETELY IGNORE THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT’S PURPOSEFUL ETHNIC CLEANSING OF THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE AND THEIR INABILITY TO PRODUCE MUSIC THAT WANTS TO BE A FREAKING COMEDY.

Someone NEEDS to tell the Australian music industry that absolutely no one on earth is taking it seriously. Like, they NEED to realize how untalented/uncultured and unnecessary they are to the greater global arts community, realize that musical talent just isn’t in the gene pool and redirect those funds to the aboriginal peoples of the continent and just pack their stuff and return to Europe. LMAO. Y’all ripped all the darkness out of Australia – that’s why your music exports suck and we don’t feel bad for you lmfaoooooooo.’
