Protesters march in Memphis after video of Tyree Nichols being beaten by police was released
Tear Nichols’ parents — RowVaughn Wells and Rodney Wells — have accepted an invitation from the Congressional Black Caucus to attend Joe Biden’s State of the Union address next week.
The faction’s chairman, Stephen Horsford, said he had spoken to Nicholls’ parents “to give them our condolences, to let them know that we are with them, to ask them what they want from us at this time”.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump has described the fatal beating of Tire Nichols as “terrible” and says it “never should have happened”.
The five former police officers accused of killing Tier Nicholls will go on trial in mid-February. Court records show they are scheduled to appear for a “bond arraignment” on Feb. 17. Fox News reported on Sunday.
Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr and Justin Smith have since been fired from their positions and the Scorpion Special Unit they belonged to has been disbanded.
The news came as Ben Crump, an attorney for the Nichols family, called for federal reform to stop the cycle of police killings of black people.

Family members, city leaders and activists have sharply criticized the behavior of the employees shown in the footage, five of whom were fired and accused of murder.
The first part of the hour-long video shows the officers pulling the young man, forcing him out of the vehicle and onto the floor.
One of them is heard saying: “F**ch, put your hands behind your back before I break them.” An officer then threatens Nichols that “I’m going to knock the hell out of your ass.”

We can’t take our eyes off videos of police behavior
Watching these videos is not something to be taken lightly because the scenes can be hard to erase from your memory. They are not there for our entertainment. Still, it’s important that people watch these videos, or at least enough of us share what happened.
