Brookyn pol demands investigation into expensive cars, lawlessness at migrant shelter

A Brooklyn lawmaker is calling for an investigation into the city’s controversial Floyd Bennett Field migrant tent shelter after he recorded at least five expensive unregistered cars being towed from the camp over the weekend.

MP Jamie Williams said she was amazed to find that migrants there had either bought or had access to brand new cars, noting that asylum seekers were unlikely to have driving licences.

“Why do we continue to tolerate his iniquity? This needs to be explored at all levels. It’s a misuse of taxpayer dollars,” Williams told The Post.

“How did the migrants get access to these cars? They are not driven by standard cars. These were new vehicles,” added the Democrat, who represents Canarsie, Georgetown, Mill Basin, Marine Park, Bergen Beach and Gerritsen Beach neighborhoods near the federal park.

The Post first reported Saturday about the cars — including two Toyota Sequoia SUVs and a Toyota Sienna with Florida dealer plates — that were towed from the camp.

They were parked illegally on the grass that is a park.

During the strange scene that unfolded on Friday night, a migrant was seen begging to be allowed access to the towed vehicle.

Williams, who shared a video of the incident on Facebook, said federal, state and local authorities should investigate.

“There may be more here than meets the eye. We don’t know if cartels are involved,” she said on Monday.

The U.S. Parks Department under the Biden administration allowed Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams to use part of Floyd Bennett Field — a federal park — to house migrants.

The city operates the camp, which the state funds. The migrants housed there have previously knocked on nearby doors and asked neighbors for money, food and clothes.

Williams blamed President Biden for the crisis that has negatively affected her 59th district and the Big Apple as a whole, saying federal authorities have failed to secure the U.S.-Mexico border, allowing waves of thousands of migrants to flow into the city and burden the resources.

“The Biden administration has turned a blind eye to his immigration crisis — 100 percent,” she said.

Williams also told Fox News on Monday, “We have this lawlessness going on in New York, especially in my neighborhood in southeast Brooklyn. … Our residents have become the beneficiaries of the lawlessness of these migrants.”

Resolving the migrant crisis has become a “bipartisan battle,” Williams said, noting that she works closely with Queens Republican Councilwoman Joan Ariola, whose district also borders Floyd Bennett Field.

“It affects everyone in our area,” she said.

“I don’t know why people are afraid to step up to the plate. But we need to do this sooner rather than later. We owe it to every American taxpayer,” she told Fox.

The U.S. Parks Department and the Hochul and Adams administrations had no immediate comment.
