Whether you’re looking for something to enjoy on your own or hoping to show visiting friends and family a fun night out, Buena Vista (BV) has plenty to offer to keep people entertained over the next two holiday weekends. From the return of karaoke at The Lariat to New Year’s Eve with Leadville Cherokee at the Ivy Ballroom, BV is ready to celebrate Christmas and ring in the new year with a bang.

New Year’s Eve 5 course dinner at Wesley & Rose

4pm to 9pm Sunday 31 December.

Residents are invited to celebrate New Year’s Eve with a special 5-course dinner and wine pairing at Wesley & Rose at the Surf Hotel. Dinner will include both vegetarian and non-vegetarian menu.

A complimentary ticket to the Ivy Ballroom for the New Year’s Eve party featuring Leadville Cherokee and DJ Filfee is included with meal purchase.

Dinner is $99 with an optional wine pairing for an additional $49. Reservations can be made by calling the Surf Hotel front desk at 719-966-7048.

Sunday, December 31. Box office opens at 7:00 p.m. Doors will open at 8:00 p.m. and the show will begin at 9:00 p.m.

Leadville Cherokee is a high-energy rock band from Colorado whose music is influenced by Ween, Paul Cauthen, The Steeldrivers and Bill Withers. Their sound mixes elements of rock, funk, country and crustpunk.

The band was formed in 2009 by guitarist Mark Nierneberger and Pete Albrect. They later added bassist Brian Carter and drummer Zack Kochetta.

They are active in the Colorado highlands playing various whitewater festivals such as the Royal Gorge Whitewater Festival, Paddlefest and are headlining FIBArk in 2021.

Following their performance, attendees will ring in the new year with a champagne toast, balloon release and dance party with DJ Filfee.

Holiday Karaoke is back at The Lariat, hosted by Moonlighter Mobile Entertainment.

The magic beans

This is a 21+ event. Advance tickets are $15 and can be purchased separately for December 22nd and 23rd.

The Magic Beans pay tribute to American music, incorporating funk, R&B, rock, soul and a bit of country into their sound. Their latest release, Unzippedis an all-instrumental tribute to lo-fi recording techniques, hip-hop beat tapes and 90s neo-soul.

Gold Leader is a modern funk and groove collaboration of six from Denver. They plan to release a full-length in 2024. Influences include The Meters, Snarky Puppy, Herbie Hancock, Radiohead, Julian Lage and The Gorillaz.

Gold Leader features Zach Jackson (bass), Will Trask (drums/percussion), Thomas Jennings (guitar), Eric Luba (keyboards/organ), Alex Cazet (tenor sax) and Carrie Jean Jennings (trumpet/flugel horn).

ATOMGA have been a staple of Colorado music since their inception in 2011. They feature Afrobeat music infused with elements of jazz, rock, hip-hop and funk. ATOMGA has remixes from artists such as Grant Phabao at Paris DJ’s in Paris and France and Craig Welsch at Rear Window Studio in Boston. There is a gold medal winning beer named after them in Curitiba, Brazil by Bodebrown. This brew is served periodically at Banded Oak Brewing Company in Denver.

ATOMGA features LaSha “Calysol” Afarko (vocals), Joshua Merbitz (trumpet), Frank Roddy (tenor sax), Andrew Tobin (baritone sax), Casey Hrdlicka (guitar), Peter Mouser (keyboards, fender rhodes), Otis Lande (bass ). Guitar), Jared “Jball” Fischer (congas, djembe, percussion), Matt Grundstad (timbales, percussion) and Matt Schooley (drums).
