Lance Reddick is being remembered by his Hollywood friends and colleagues following the news of his death on Friday. Keanu Reeves, Wendell Pierce, James Gunn and more shared a touching tribute to the late actor.
Reddick, who reprized his role as Charon, the hotel doorman John Wick: Chapter 4remembered the film’s director Chad Stahelski and its star Keanu Reeves, who dedicated the recent film to his memory.
“We are deeply saddened and heartbroken at the loss of our beloved friend and colleague Lance Reddick. He was the consummate professional and a pleasure to work with,” Stahelski and Reeves said in a joint statement. “Our love and prayers are with his wife Stephanie, children, family and friends. We dedicate the film to his tender memory. We will miss him very much.”
The official account for John Wick also tweeted: “A kind hearted soul, a wonderful person and a true friend. See you, Lance Reddick.
Reddick was known and famous for his role in series The wireand was remembered by his colleagues and the show’s creator on Friday.
“A man of great strength and grace. He was as talented a musician as he was an actor,” Pierce tweeted. “The epitome of class. A sudden unexpected acute painful grief for our artistic family. Unimaginable suffering for his personal family and loved ones. God, my friend. You left your mark here.
Isaiah Whitlock Jr., who also starred in The wire, tweeted, “Shocked and saddened by the news that Lance Reddick has passed away. Really heartbreaking. RIP My friend. You will be missed.”
Show creator David Simon described him as “the consummate professional, dedicated collaborator, wonderful soul and friend” in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s just gutting and way, way, way too soon for any of us who knew and loved him to think about.”
Throughout his career, Reddick has starred in shows like Oz, Fringe, Boschand Lost. His film credits include action films like The White House down and Godzilla vs. Kongas well as the Spike Lee remake Old boy. And he often did voice work for hit video games like Quantum disruptionon Fate franchise, and Horizon Zero Dawn.
Sharing a DM exchange with the late star Kirk Acevedo, who starred in Oz and Fringe with Reddick,” the late actor recalled, saying he was “No words” after learning of his death. “I can’t make this up. This is really sad. We keep losing good people! I am speechless,” he wrote. “Rest in peace.”
Other Hollywood leaders such as Ben Stiller, Questlove and James Gunn also paid tribute to the actor. Questlove’s simple words: “I can’t take it anymore. tear up lance reddick.
“Lance Reddick was an incredibly kind man and an incredibly talented actor,” Gunn tweeted. “It’s heartbreaking. My love goes out to all his family, friends and associates.”
Stiller wrote, “Lance Reddick was a handsome and compelling actor. And a handsome man. He worked with my mother, Anne Meara, in her play Afterplay as Raziel, the waiter who cuts the angel of death. The actor added: “He was exquisite in it and in everything he did.”
Redick’s representatives confirmed his death A rolling stone on Friday, saying he “died suddenly this morning of natural causes.”
“He is survived by his wife Stephanie Reddick and children Yvonne Nicole Reddick and Christopher Reddick. Donations in his memory can be made at momcares.org in Baltimore, his hometown,” the statement continued. Lance will be greatly missed. Please respect his family’s privacy at this time.
Reddick recently appeared on Regina King’s One night in Miami…the animated sitcom Paradise PDand the Netflix series adaptation Resident Evil.
An industry veteran, Reddick completed several more projects before his unexpected death, including his fourth John Wick movie that arrives on March 24th. He will also appear posthumously in the Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians (he plays Zeus) as well White men can’t jump a remake and a new biopic about Shirley Chisholm, the first black congresswoman.
