Celebrity stylist Lo Roach reveals what happened in the viral video of him and Zendaya that caused an uproar online.
Lowe, who has styled countless A-list celebrities – Anya Taylor-Joy, Tiffany Haddish, Anne Hathaway, Lizzo, Priyanka Chopra Jonas to name a few – became the talk of the fashion world this week after announcing the sudden your retirement from styling.
A video that appeared from Paris Fashion Week earlier this month made the rounds online after showing a seemingly tense moment when Zendaya and Lo arrived together at the Louis Vuitton show. Zendaya recently became an ambassador for the luxury brand. In the clip, Zendaya takes the only remaining seat in the front row next to Emma Stone, and Law is shown looking confused as to where he should sit. Zendaya then points to the seat behind her and a visibly stressed Law stands confused for a moment.
Many speculated that the moment was the last straw for Lowe, who ended up announcing his retirement on Instagram just days later. But now he’s clearing up those rumors and other theories that he and Zendaya won’t be working together anymore.
In an interview with The Cut, Law said that he and Zendaya were late for the Louis Vuitton show because of traffic and explained that they were both visibly confused.
“It was a big worry because Zendaya is really respectful and she doesn’t like people to have to wait for her, so it was just a worry,” Lo explained. “I’m always used to sitting next to her. And so in my mind my place was next to her. So when I got there and it wasn’t, you know, it wasn’t a problem, but there was no one to tell me where my real place was.”
Law then said that Zendaya pointed to the seat behind her where her assistant would be sitting, without gesturing to where Law should sit.
“And so I stood there – I was really kind of confused. And remember, we had just made a mad dash to get there, so it’s anxiety, like sweating,” Law continued. “I come from a house where I know where I belong, right? It’s right next to her and it’s always right next to her because that’s part of our relationship and our interaction, seeing the clothes together.
He continued, “It got really hard because it made people think that Zendaya didn’t take care of me and didn’t make sure I took care of me.”
Law also explained that he didn’t have any issues with Delphine Arnaud — the CEO of Christian Dior and daughter of LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault — who was sitting across from Zendaya.
“No beef with LVMH. Delfin and the Arnaud family have been so good to me,” Law said, addressing rumors that he objected to Delfin not giving up his seat.
Law also made it clear in a series of tweets that he and Zendaya will still work together, but that he is “definitely, 100,000 percent retiring” from being a stylist.
In a since-deleted social media post this week, Law said he was retiring, writing in the caption “politics, lies and fake narratives finally caught up with me! You win…I’m out.”
Law later explained that he hadn’t been “happy, to be honest, in a really long time.”
“And the culmination of everything that’s been going on in my career over the last few days just pushed me over the edge,” Law continued. “And it’s just like, You know what? I did everything. I am very grateful that I was able to move and rise in this industry the way I did. But I can’t say I didn’t do it without suffering.”
Let’s hope Lo continues to do great things in the fashion world — especially giving us those amazing Zendaya looks over the years!
