Chrissy Lee founded The Honest Plate with the mission of providing simple resources and effective strategies to give people back their power with their food. Instead of promoting fad diets or endless protein shakes and bars, The Honest Plate shifts focus to a lifestyle that includes whole foods that fill you up. Chrissy’s cooking and catering courses give you all the tools you need to start enjoying and feeling good about food again.

Whole foods foundation with the honest plate

Chrissy’s newfound love for wholesome food and cooking began when she lived in Italy. Their lifestyle was completely different from the processed, fast-paced one she was used to in the US. “I saw in Italy how sacred food is,” she explains. “The quality of the ingredients and the way they approach food is so different from the way we approach food as Americans.”

When Chrissy and her husband moved home from Italy, they landed in New York, where Chrissy had the amazing opportunity to visit the Natural Gourmet Institute. She graduated as a natural food chef and shortly after returned to Seattle to start working in catering.

Chrissy has spent years in this industry and has catered events for celebrities and some former presidents. She and her family later moved to Austin, Texas, where she worked as a private chef for 8 years. As glamorous as this all sounds, Chrissy truly felt her passion was helping local people and communities develop a healthier relationship with food, which prompted their move back to Thurston County. “It was so much fun to have those experiences, but cooking and creating in a community like Olympia means so much more to me because it creates so much more of a connection,” Chrissy says.

She founded The Honest Plate to provide cooking classes locally at organizations including the Bayview Thriftway, as well as privately in your own home. This creates a personalized experience to really dive into your favorite recipes and learn new ways to create healthy meals at home.

She still offers catering services for events and parties where you want a delicious healthy meal or when you just want to have fun as a host. “I don’t want you to lift a finger in my catering!” she shares. “Feeding people is what makes me happy and it’s so nice to see the joy in people holding events where they don’t have to stress about cooking.” As she continued to grow in the local community, Chrissy discovered her true passion for food in helping others discover delicious and healthy foods while alleviating the stress and uncertainty surrounding healthy eating.

Cooking classes in Olympia teach how to eat well

With most diet companies and some diet coaches, clients are told what to eat, how much, and when. It becomes very strict and immediately creates a relationship of dependence. Chrissy discovered how much more impactful coaching is when she empowers her clients to learn cooking and basic nutrition techniques so they can manage their own food for years to come. “I didn’t want to tell people what to eat, I wanted to teach them how to eat,” she explains. “I want people to eat, eat well and eat good food at the same time. Our diet culture just doesn’t allow us to believe that food should be enjoyed, so it’s really about changing people’s minds that you can eat real healthy foods that taste delicious.

Chrissy has seen how powerful it is to give people the tools and knowledge to really take care of their bodies. Her top priorities when creating menus or recipes for people include food that is nourishing, filling and enjoyable, using real, whole ingredients and avoiding processed foods. “You can still eat the foods you want using real, good ingredients,” she explains. “I teach you how to make these healthy, nutritious meals that can easily fit into your everyday life.” Even as a busy family, you can eat well and live well.”

With her cooking lessons, Chrissy likes to add an element of surprise to her recipes to give people an idea of ​​the great variety that awaits in the kitchen. By teaching people how to use different ingredients, they can begin to create recipes that are more nutritious and delicious than what they may have prepared from a can or can in the past. “I like to do things like add avocado to a mousse or broccoli and walnuts in a pesto sauce,” shares Chrissy. “It provides an improved version of this food and it tastes even better than the standard.” Giving people these fun and innovative recipes really shows them how to be creative in the kitchen and find new ways to get together and enjoy the food together.
