LONDON & NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Today FitXR, the leading VR training platform with the largest offering of fitness classes, showcased its seventh studio, Slam, the first custom workout designed to maximize cross-training opportunities in the mixed reality, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas for the first time. On the back of its presence at CES, FitXR released its 2023 statistics in review, highlighting robust user engagement across the platform.

The new Slam Studio makes it easier than ever for users to achieve their fitness goals and leverages the power of FitXR’s exclusive spatial sensing algorithm, which adapts signals to the unique layout of each physical room, providing an optimal gaming experience. The workout is structured like an active game rather than a traditional gym, so users smash their goals without even realizing they’re breaking a sweat.

With four new studio launches in 2023, FitXR has surpassed 1,000 classes available on the platform, providing users with a wide range of fitness options. The popularity of the platform is highlighted by the fact that Zumba, launched in November, quickly rose to the second most preferred studio, with Box leading the way as the most popular. In 2023 alone, users collectively spent 33.5 million minutes working on the platform.

“This represents a pivotal moment in the adoption of VR fitness over the last 12 months,” said FitXR CEO Sam Cole. “These milestones are not just numbers. They are a celebration of our community’s efforts and highlight the value of being part of a movement that nurtures fitness, fun and fulfillment. We’re excited to kick off the new year at CES with our most innovative studio yet and continue to bring fun, intuitive workouts to users.”

For those striving to achieve New Year’s fitness goals, the importance of these milestones extends beyond statistics. A recent study led by Dr. Oliver Runswick, co-leader of the Basic Psychological Sciences Research Theme at King’s College London, used gold standard measures to examine the physiological and psychological differences between exercise in VR and traditional non-immersive formats. Participants participated in 12-minute FitXR workouts using Meta Quest 2 headsets, as well as the same workout projected on a conventional 2D screen.

From a physiological perspective, the results revealed that not only did participants choose to work harder in the VR workout, but they also perceived the exercise as more challenging, resulting in a more satisfying and enjoyable experience. Overall, the FitXR workout not only demonstrated higher levels of oxygen consumption and heart rate, but psychologically, participants reported significantly greater enjoyment and positive emotions after the workout. Compared to traditional screen-based workouts, VR is emerging as a more fun and effective way to exercise.

“The positive results of this trial are a testament to VR’s potential to transform the way we approach exercise, offering a more enjoyable and effective alternative.” Integrating technology with fitness isn’t just a gimmick; it’s a game changer,” said Dr. Runswick.
