BUCKSPORT – Greenhead Lobster Products is voluntarily recalling all frozen and chilled cooked lobster meat products produced from May 9, 2023 through October 19, 2023 due to the possibility that the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the frail or elderly, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may only suffer from short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. listeria the infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.

Although none of the recalled products tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes, the seizure is based on the presence of the organism in the treatment environment. No other Greenhead Lobster retail products are affected by this recall, including raw products.

The recalled product, fresh cooked Greenhead Lobster meat, was sold frozen or chilled in packages of 1 to 2 lbs. or in cases up to 12 lbs. and may be identified by “best if used by” dates ranging from May 9, 2025 to October 12, 2025 for frozen products and May 27, 2023 to October 30, 2023 for chilled products. The “best if used by” date is on the white label on the front of the package. The products under recall are listed in the accompanying table.

Products are distributed directly in Maine and New Hampshire and then sold nationwide through wholesale distributors and online through e-commerce.

To date, no illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall.

Consumers who purchased any of the listed products should not consume the product and may return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
