Hollywood mourns the untimely death of Matthew Perry.
After it was reported that the actor and comedian – who was best known for his role as Chandler Bing on friends – was found dead of apparent drowning in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home on Saturday, heartfelt tributes from A-listers, his former co-stars and fans began flooding the internet. And while his colleague friends castmates have yet to speak, the sitcom’s official account shared its condolences. “We are devastated to learn of the death of Matthew Perry. He was a true gift to all of us,” reads an Instagram post. “Our hearts go out to his family, loved ones and all his fans.”
From recalling fond memories to praising his openness about his struggles with addiction, here’s how celebrities are honoring Perry’s death.
Selma Blair
“My oldest friend. We all loved Matthew Perry, me especially,” Blair wrote alongside a selfie of her and Perry on Instagram, adding: “Every day. I loved him unconditionally. And he me. I’m broken too. With a broken heart. Sweet dreams, Matty. Sweet Dreams.”
Alyssa Milano
“Matty was always the funniest person in the room. AND THE CUTEST. He was kind,” wrote Milano, who co-starred with Perry in Who’s the boss? on Instagram.
“Matty, remember when we used to play bingo at that church in the valley? You made me laugh that sick kind of laugh. Crying laughter. It made me cry-laughter,” she continued. “My condolences to all who loved him. 💔”
Adele
In a viral clip from Adele’s Las Vegas concert on Oct. 28, the singer shared a childhood memory of Perry friends character. “One of my friends, Andrew, when I was 12, did the best impression of Chandler,” she told the audience. “And he did it all the time to make us laugh, and if one of us was having a bad day or feeling down, he’d just pretend to be Chandler.” And I will remember this character for the rest of my life.
She also praised him for being open about his struggles with addiction. “He’s been so open about his struggles with addiction and sobriety, which I think is incredibly, incredibly brave,” Adele added. “I just want to say how much I love what you’ve done for all of us.”
Olivia Munn
Munn expressed his sadness over Perry’s death in a post on Instagram Story, writing, “He struggled with so much addiction and was brave enough to be open and honest about it. I am so sorry for his family and friends receiving this news today. Nothing short of heartbreaking. Rest in love Matthew Perry 💔.”
Justin Trudeau
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, one of Perry’s classmates in Ottawa, also honored the five-time Emmy-nominated actor with a heartfelt post. “The humiliation of Matthew Perry is shocking and saddening. I will never forget the schoolyard games we played and I know people around the world will never forget the joy he brought them,” he wrote. “Thanks for all the laughs Matthew. You were loved – and you will be missed.”

Doherty, the former star of Matthew c Beverly Hills 90210 in 1991, shared his own happy memory. “We were a gang back in the day. We all grew up together going to Formosa, North and laughing all the time. Matt, Roger, David, Roxanne. We were playing dares and Matt had to say ridiculous things to the girls at the bar,” the actress recalled. “We just always had fun and supported each other. You will always find us all together in a booth speaking our own made-up language. And yes, Matt has always had THAT sense of humor.’
She continued: “Matt and I had a date and it was on Valentine’s Day. He wanted to make a reservation at a restaurant in Malibu, but he couldn’t, so my dad got the reservation for him. We went and he talked about my father’s Irish conviction for most of the evening. Our friendship lasted a long time. A lifetime indeed. I know many are hurting, especially our little gang. He will be missed by many and certainly by us. Yes. I could be more poetic or say things better, but right now the shock and sadness is overwhelming.”
