Bad Girls is a teen/comedy film about Cady Heron, a teenager starting her junior year at a new school after being homeschooled her entire life. This movie is famous for a reason – its gossip and drama keep everyone entertained. However, it also includes the deeper story of a high school student who just wants to fit in and make friends at a new school. I believe that everyone should consider seeing this film because of Caddy’s credibility and the film’s humor. Overall, this movie is extremely entertaining.
Clueless is a teen movie that follows the love story of Cher, a teenager, and Josh, her ex-brother-in-law, as well as Ty, a new girl at her school, with whom she has an exciting new friendship. I enjoyed many of the real-life situations in the film, including being mugged, having a complicated love life, and living with strict parents. This film also highlights late ’90s style with outfits like the iconic white bodycon dress, yellow plaid skirt suit, and ivory vest set. I think both current teens and adults who were teens in the 90s will enjoy this movie because of the time period.
Titanic is a tragic romantic film based on the real-life sinking of the Titanic on April 14-15, 1912. The film focuses on a couple who meet on the ship, Rose and Jack, and their subsequent love story. It’s one of the most amazing movies I’ve ever seen, not only because it made me cry my eyes out, but also because of its humor, like when Jack tries to teach Rose how to spit from the side of the ship. I love how the beginning immediately draws you in and sets up the rest of the story as you watch people search the ocean for a million dollar necklace. This movie takes you on a crazy journey and I would recommend watching it whether individually, with friends or with family.
Matilda is a fantasy film about a young girl, Matilda, who is extremely intelligent, even though her family doesn’t believe in her. The story follows her journey at Crunchem Hall Primary School, run by the tyrannical Agatha Trunchbull, where Matilda discovers and learns to deal with her powers. I love how Matilda outsmarts everyone and becomes so strong that she ends up changing her community for the better. I also enjoy the thrill of the film: you really don’t know what will happen next or how Matilda will handle certain situations in her new school. This movie is very funny, great for kids and adults alike and great to watch with the family.
10 things I hate about you is a romantic comedy about two sisters, Kat and Bianca Stratford, who are complete opposites. Kat is very feminist, sarcastic and confident; meanwhile, Bianca is sweet, charming and bubbly. Their father decides that Bianca can’t get a boyfriend unless Kat does, and so the film follows high school students trying to get Kat a boyfriend so that Bianca can get a boyfriend. This movie is a lot of fun to watch with friends. Especially interesting are Kat’s personality and how she begins to fall in love, as well as Bianca’s love story. I watch this movie every month and it’s always satisfying to see the development of the two sisters.
The Breakfast Club is a comedy / teen film that focuses on five high school students who experience Saturday detention. The five students don’t know each other that well, but they become much closer as the day goes on. I believe this story is very realistic in its portrayal of high school students who judge each other mostly based on each other’s reputation without really knowing each other. It also has a lot of chaotic moments that are a lot of fun. I love watching this movie with my family and I’m sure everyone can find it entertaining.
How to lose a man in 10 days is the ultimate romantic comedy. It centers on the romance between writer Andi Anderson, who writes for the How To columnist for Composure Magazineand Benjamin Barry, advertising director. Andy tries to find a guy to lose in 10 days for his How To column, while Benjamin tries to win a big campaign and bets that he can make a woman fall in love with him in 10 days. They both use each other but end up falling in love. There are many moments that would make anyone laugh and it is very comforting to see them fall in love. Throughout the film it is also interesting to see their reactions to how the other uses them. This movie is a great way to pass the time.
