Jamie Komoroski Escorted From Jail By Father Freed On $150K Bail After Killing Bride In Post-Wedding Crash

News from the USA

The driver accused of killing a bride on her wedding night while allegedly drunk behind the wheel was released from prison on Friday – less than a year after the deadly crash.

Jamie Lee Komoroski, 26, left the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center in North Charleston, South Carolina, with her father, Charles, after her bond was posted at $150,000 earlier that day.

Komoroski, who was wearing a black hoodie and hiding behind her father, was put into an SUV outside the jail before speeding off into the rain, ABC 4 footage from the jail showed.

As part of her release, Komoroski will be placed under house arrest in Charleston County, South Carolina, with a SCRAM ankle monitor, a device worn on the ankle of “DUI clients and high-risk alcoholics” that tests a person’s sweat for alcohol 24/7.

She must remain in Charleston County and will only be allowed to leave her approved residence for medical emergencies or court orders, according to court records.

The accused drunk driver will also be disqualified from driving and has surrendered her passport.

Judge Michael Nettles ordered Komoroski at a hearing on August 1, 2023, to remain behind bars because he was considered a flight risk.

However, the judge ordered that Komoroski be released on bail if the trial does not begin before March.

Chris Gramiccioni, Komoroski’s attorney, said Friday that his client “was not a flight risk or a danger to the community” before her release.

A trial date has not yet been set, according to Charleston County Circuit Court.

It’s Komoroski’s first time out of jail since she allegedly crashed her Toyota Camry into a golf cart carrying Samantha Miller, 34, and her new husband, Aric Hutchinson, 36, as they left their wedding beachside reception in Folly Beach on April 28, 2023.

Prosecutors say she had a blood alcohol level of 0.261 — three times the legal blood alcohol limit — and was driving 65 mph in a 25 mph zone when she crashed her vehicle into the wedding party. as they left the reception.

Miller died on the spot in her wedding dress, her new husband suffered a brain injury and two other passengers were also injured.

Komoroski was allegedly so drunk that she told responding officers, “All of a sudden something hit me,” and repeatedly said, “I didn’t do anything wrong,” in a dazed state of confusion.

The bride’s grieving mother, Lisa Miller, said Thursday that she wants her daughter’s accused killer to receive the “maximum restrictions possible” while he is free on bail.

“I want it to include house arrest, ankle monitoring and not being able to leave the state,” she said, carefully adding that the past year has been “very challenging.”

“We all expected that she would be released for the first time [last summer] but luckily the judge kept her, I think it has to do with our impact statements.

Komoroski has been charged with four felonies in connection with the fatal crash.

She faces up to 25 years in prison.
