Kenan Thompson and Kell Mitchell will soon be back at work A good burger. Nickelodeon Studios and Paramount+ have officially confirmed the green light of A good burger 2original film sequel to the iconic feature film based on a recurring sketch from the comedy series All this. Thompson and Mitchell are set to reprise their classic roles as Dexter and Ed, respectively.
The film will follow Dexter Reed (Thompson) and original cashier Ed (Mitchell) as they reunite in the present day at a Good Burger fast food restaurant with a fun new group of employees.
Production will begin in May, with a premiere set for later this year exclusively on Paramount+. The news was revealed this evening on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
in Good Burger 2, Dexter Reed is out of luck after yet another of his inventions fails. Ed welcomes Dex back to Good Burger with open arms and gives him his old job back. With a new team working at Good Burger, Dex comes up with a plan to get back on his feet, but unfortunately puts the fate of Good Burger at risk once again.
“I can’t believe it’s been just over 25 years since great customer service was born at Good Burger!” said Thompson. “To be a part of something that so many generations of people have loved has made me so proud and now to be back where it all started working on the sequel is surreal! I love performing alongside my brother Kel and I can’t wait to show the fans what these characters have been up to since we last saw them.”
Mitchell added: “Ed is one of those timeless characters who has brought so much joy and laughter to fans and it’s such a beautiful blessing to continue to do so after all these years. It’s super cool to come back and continue the stories of Dex, Ed and Good Burger for both the people who grew up watching them and their children.”
A good burger 2 was written by All this and A good burger screenwriters Kevin Copelow and Heath Seifert, who also executive produce, and directed by Phil Traill (The Middle, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Single Drunk Female). James III (Tyler Perry’s Young Dylan, all of it) will also serve as writer. Production on the film for Nickelodeon Studios is led by Shauna Phelan and Zack Olin, Co-Heads of Nickelodeon & Awesomeness Live-Action. Brittany Cope is a Nickelodeon executive in charge of production.
“A good burger is such a beloved film that fans have cherished for years,” said Phelan and Olin. “Filled with comedy, cameos and plenty of Easter eggs from the original, A good burger 2 will bring together nostalgic fans and a new generation of viewers for another wild, hilarious Good Burger adventure.”
The original 90s sketch on which the original film was based first aired on All this in 1994 and centers around the Good Burger fast food restaurant and its clueless cashier Ed, played by Mitchell in seasons 1–5. The feature film A good burger was released worldwide on July 25, 1997 by Paramount Pictures. Later in All this in 2019, Mitchell returned in a guest appearance as Ed, who has worked at Good Burger for 20 years as the trainee manager.
Said Tanya Giles, chief programming officer of Paramount Streaming, “We’re thrilled to be taking audience orders for more laughs and adventures with A good burger crew. A good burger 2 will be a great addition to our 2023 programming schedule and is sure to serve up everything All this fans and new viewers alike will enjoy it.”
