Lance Reddick Remembered by ‘The Wire’ Cast Hollywood Celebrities – Deadline

Refresh for updates... The wire actors Wendell Pierce and Isaiah Whitlock Jr. and EP creator David Simon are among Hollywood colleagues, friends and fans paying tribute to John Wick and The wire star Lance Reddick, who died today at age 60.

“A man of great power and grace,” it says The wire co-star Wendell Pierce. “Such a talented musician as well as an actor. The epitome of class. A sudden unexpected acute painful grief for our artistic family. Unimaginable suffering for his personal family and loved ones. God, my friend. You left your mark here. REST IN PEACE”

“Shocked and saddened by the news that Lance Reddick has passed away,” Whitlock wrote. “Really heartbreaking. RIP My friend. You will be missed. Divine speed.”

Simon, who created The wire and the corner an earlier HBO crime drama in which Reddick appeared said: “A consummate professional, dedicated collaborator, wonderful soul and friend. It’s just gutting and way, way, way too soon for any of us who knew and loved him to think.”

An HBO spokesperson said today: “Lance has been a part of the HBO family for over 20 years, starring in several projects, including iconic roles in Oz and The wire. He is respected by all who knew and worked with him, and we are proud to be part of his legacy. He will be greatly missed.”

Others paying tribute include Kirk Acevedo (who partnered with Redick in Oz and Fringe), Ben Stiller, Stephen King, Reggie Watkins and Terry Kinney. See their comments below.

Reddick died this morning of natural causes at the age of 60. Reddick played Charon in the John Wick film franchise and was a series regular on The Wire, Fringe and Bosch.

“Lance Reddick was a beautiful and captivating actor,” Ben Stiller tweeted. “And a handsome man. He worked with my mother Ann Meara in her play Afterplay, playing Raziel, the waiter who cuts the angel of death. He was exquisite in this and in everything he did.

“Lance Reddick was an incredibly kind man and an incredibly talented actor,” said Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn. “It’s heartbreaking. My love goes out to all his family, friends and associates.”

“I can’t take it anymore,” Questlove tweeted. “rip Lance Reddick”.

Jake Vogelnest, 2018-2020 series writer Corporate which included Reddick, wrote: “I am very saddened to hear of the passing of Lance Reddick. An incredibly joyful human being and an amazing actor. Working with him on “Corporate” was a master class. My deepest condolences to his family and all who were touched by his presence.”
