Lumber companies in Elkhart County listed as “Largest in North America” ​​| News

INDIANAPOLIS — Nineteen Indiana woodworking companies have been named to the 2023 FDMC 300 list, which ranks North America’s largest cabinetry, furniture, millwork, shop equipment, office/contract and component manufacturers. Three of them are based in Elkhart County and one has a manufacturing facility in Goshen.

“Indiana is proud to be ranked as a leading producer of so many wood products and to provide a large number of Hoosiers with good-paying hardwood manufacturing jobs,” said Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, Indiana Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development . “Wood is a renewable resource and provides stability and quality to furniture like no other.”

Jasper-based MasterBrand Cabinets, which also has a facility in Goshen, ranks third overall and is the largest on the list from Indiana. MasterBrand generates about $3.3 billion in sales in 2022 and has about 14,000 employees, according to information provided by state officials. Its manufacturing operations span over 20 plants in the United States and Mexico, totaling more than six million square feet to produce stock, semi-custom and custom fully assembled kitchen and bathroom cabinets and more.

“MasterBrand is proud of its Indiana roots, which can be traced back nearly 70 years to Celestine, Indiana,” said Dave Banyard, President and CEO of MasterBrand. “As a company, our goal is to build great experiences together, and that wouldn’t be possible without our dedicated collaborators who make beautiful, functional and unique cabinets every day.”

The companies on the list are ordered by annual sales. Four other Indiana companies ranked among the top 35 companies on the list: Kimball International Inc. is in 23rd place, OFS Brands Inc. ranks 31st and Genesis Products is 34th.

Goshen-based Genesis Products manufactures wood paneling, wood interior products and other wood products for leading manufacturers in the RV, manufactured housing, hospitality and other industries. In 2022, the company’s sales total and are estimated at $380 million. Genesis Products operates 14 manufacturing facilities in the United States totaling 1.5 million square feet and employing 1,150 people.

Jasper-based Kimball International Inc. manufactures furniture for offices, hotels and cabinets. In 2022, the company’s sales will be around $665 million. Kimball International Inc. operates nine plants in the US and Mexico and employs 2,800 people.

Huntingburg-based OFS Brands Inc. posted projected sales of $490 million in 2022. OFS owns 10 manufacturing facilities in the U.S. totaling 2 million square feet with 1,986 employees. The company produces office furniture; Desks, filing cabinets, conference tables, office chairs and office chairs; and healthcare, education and hospitality furniture.

Although not headquartered in Indiana, five other top 25 companies on the list have at least one manufacturing facility in Indiana. These are Cabinetworks Group; American Woodmark Corp.; Dorel Industries Inc.; MJB Wood Group; and Quanex North American Fenestration.

“This industry is an incredible asset to Indiana agriculture,” said Chris Gonso, ISDA hardwood program manager. “Many of our Hoosier companies have been on the FDMC list for many years, which shows how strong this industry is for economic potential in the agriculture industry.”

Indiana’s hardwood industry has an annual economic impact of more than $10 billion and supports 70,000 jobs, state officials noted. The Indiana Hardwood Strategy aims to increase these numbers by encouraging the expansion of current wood processing facilities, attracting new companies to the state, educating consumers and businesses about the sustainability of the hardwood industry, and looking for opportunities to grow of the value of hardwood products in Indiana.
