LOS ANGELES, Nov. 07, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Global consumer experience transformation company, Material, today announced that Sharon Kamra has been named its first Chief Human Resources Officer. Kamra takes responsibility for the company’s overall people experience and operations, including recruiting, compensation, benefits, and training and development. Kamra will report to Material’s COO, Laurie MacLaren.

Over the past few years, Material has evolved and integrated diverse capabilities in strategy, insights, design and technology to become a trusted leader in customer experience. The company’s Science and Systems approach results in continuous customer relevance in a customer-driven digital world. Material’s pursuit of the company’s strategic agenda is equally aligned with the pursuit of a highly differentiated and compelling human experience. Adopting a human-centered philosophy in line with the company’s core orientation, Material has adopted supportive policies for physical and mental health, as well as emotional and financial well-being.

With Kamra’s arrival, Material renamed its talent team to the People Team. COO McLaren said: “This signals our commitment and focus on supporting the whole person and their value beyond the skills they bring to their work.” She continued: “Sharon’s track record in shaping values-based workplaces, combined with Material’s strength in continuous learning and actionable human insights are powerful ingredients to deliver a highly relevant and differentiated work proposition. Just a quarter into her tenure with Material, Sharon and the people team are leading the organization through a major modernization of its people policies that emphasize transparency, accountability and flexibility in managing performance, time off, wellbeing and productivity.”

Kamra built his career at Sapient and its iterations, including SapientNitro, SapientRazorfish and Publicis Sapient as Chief People Officer, leading recruiting and workforce planning, among other roles. During her tenure, the company grew from 5,000 to 20,000 employees, with Kamra focusing on creating a culture of nurturing and people experience to enable more powerful rapid growth. During her time, turnover rates were consistently lower than the industry average. She began her career at Ultradata as a project manager and went on to hold customer-facing roles in the user experience space for a decade before moving into the people function.

Kamra said: “I was drawn to Material because of our people, culture and values (especially fearless inclusion), as well as our capacity for insights around deep human understanding. Our special combination of analytical competence and heart equips us to apply these abilities to ourselves – understanding our people in a way that no other company can and enabling them to do meaningful work while leading fulfilling lives. We are creating a new employee experience model that will differentiate us and make us a better company because in our pursuit of a better world, we are in partnership with the employees who work here.
