PETERSBURG – Matthew McBride made a nice catch in center field with the bases loaded to end the fifth inning and the Gibraltar Carlson baseball team (9-9) went on to defeat Summerfield 11-6 on Monday.
McCullen Green led the Carlson offense with three hits and three RBI. Noah Derwick went 3-for-4, Nico Rich had two hits and scored four times, and Marshall Kowalewski singled and doubled.
Logan Keane collected half of Summerfield’s six hits. The Bulldogs fell to 8-4.
PREPARATION FOR BASEBALL
Huron held off SMCC
New Boston Huron built a six-run lead in the first five innings, then held off St. Mary Catholic Central for a 7-5 win on Monday.
Winning pitcher Gavin Moczidlowski joined Myles Grace and Austin O’Dell with two hits each for Huron.
Drew Bylow led the SMCC comeback with a pair of RBI singles. Aidan Burrows also scored twice for the Falcons.
Dayton Miller homered and tripled to lead Huron Junior Varsity to a 12-5 victory.
Footlander casts prison
GROSSE ILE – Jordan Footlander threw a 1-hitter to lead Airport to a 10-0 win over Grosse Ile on Monday.
Tyler Lakatos went 3-for-4 to lead the charge, including a pair of RBI doubles. Nolan Zajac also hit a double home run.
Milan keep winning
MILAN – Injuries are piling up in Milan, but the Big Reds remain in the thick of the Huron League race at 6-2.
Connor Deselier and Tyler Hatfield provided solid performances in Monday’s 4-2 win over Flat Rock.
Milan (13-6 overall) got two hits apiece from Deselier, Hatfield and Gavin Cruz.
Anthony Hernandez and Evan Salai each had two hits for Flat Rock and Joey Godfrey struck out two.
Richards brings up Monroe
ANN ARBOR – Braylon Richards drove in two runs in each game as Monroe swept Ann Arbor Pioneer on Monday with a pair of 5-2 scores.
Noah Miller, Logan Loveland and Carson Liddell were other offensive leaders for the Trojans, who are 13-6-1 overall and 9-5 in the Red Southeastern Conference.
Kellen Roberts and Liedel were the winning pitchers and Owen Yount got the save.
Isaac Lenz pitched well, but the Monroe junior varsity fell 9-1 and 10-0.
Gambino leads the Mules
ANN ARBOR – Connor Gambino went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs to lead Bedford to a 6-2 victory over Ann Arbor Skyline on Monday.
Brendan Korsnak was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, and Josh Shepherd and Mark Walters each added two hits. Tommy Huss threw well.
Bedford managed just three hits in the second game and fell 7-1.
Whiteford wins
METAMORA, Ohio – Logan Tammerline and Luke Rasor combined for 12 strikeouts and Brenden Masters had two hits as Whiteford (10-6) beat Evergreen 6-3 on Monday.
The Bears are faltering late
RIVERVIEW – Jefferson was tied 3-3 with Riverview in the fifth inning when an untimely error allowed the Pirates to take the lead and earn a 5-3 victory.
Cody Byrd, Jake Brewer, Shane Johnson, Jaxyn Betts and Owen Kostoff led the Jefferson offense.

SMCC Freshman All-Star
Six freshmen scored their first career goals as St. Mary Catholic Central opened the Huron League tournament with a 15-0 win over Jefferson on Monday.
Caroline Rocker, Quinn Harrington and Lydia Johnson each had two goals for the 7-8 Kestrels. Other scores came from Alex Wickenheiser, Brianna Lynch, Sadie Johnson, Leah Desarbo, Haley Willis, Belle Morin, Sophia Short, Maddie Zaleski and Mireya Saavedra.
Milan, Huron tie
MILAN – Milan’s Ali Milina scored on a penalty kick about 15 minutes into the second half and Riley Cassett scored the equalizer for New Boston Huron with 10 minutes remaining.
The teams played to a 1-1 tie in the first round of the Huron League tournament on Monday.
Kendyl Sikorski had an assist for Huron.
Ortega scores twice
FLAT ROCK – Cecilia Ortega scored both goals as Airport beat Flat Rock 2-0 on Monday in the first round of the Huron League tournament.
Madilyn Daniels made 13 saves for Airport.

Pafford leads Monroe
CHELSEA – Kyle Pafford went 4-1 at Inverness Country Club on Monday to help Monroe to a 171-round finish.
The Trojans finished ahead of Ann Arbor Huron (179) and behind Chelsea (162).
Huron shows balance
NEW BOSTON – New Boston Huron defeated Flat Rock 149-184 on Monday at Willow Metropark, with Marco Tylutki shooting a 1-under-par 34, Nicholas Kosiba 36, Cameron Grant 38 and Tyler Toth 41.
“Huron played extremely well today,” Flat Rock coach Mark Villemure said. “Marco missed very few shots.”
Bryce Elliott led Flat Rock with 43.
SMCC fails
GROSSE ILE – St. Mary Catholic fell 154-162 to River’s Edge on Monday.
Pirates top Airport
Riverview was too much for 164-178 Sandy Creek Airport on Monday.
Karlsson is second
TAYLOR – Trenton threw a 158 to edge Gibraltar Carlson by 11 strokes in the Downriver League Quad at Lakes of Taylor on Monday.

Bedford wins in OT
ANN ARBOR – Blake Dlugosilski had three goals and four assists and Cameron Barber scored four times for Bedford in a 13-12 overtime win over Ann Arbor Pioneer on Monday.
Brennan McIntyre added two goals and two assists, while Brady Weirich and Aidan DePew each had a goal and two assists. Logan Johnson and Andrew Williamson scored other goals. Brandon Staley made 16 saves.

Orth throws a shutout
TEMPERANCE – Connor Orth threw a 2-hitter and Dakota Messenger drove in four runs as Bedford beat Ann Arbor Skyline 15-0 in the first game of a doubleheader Monday.
Skyline took the second game 2-1.

Flat Rock starts a race
