Forget “Anarchy in the UK” — trouble is brewing in California.
Sex Pistols rocker John Lydon has told fellow Golden State residents Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to call it quits in a shocking new interview.
London-born Lydon, 67, moved to Malibu more than three decades ago but hardly welcomed his British expat friend Prince Harry, who moved with Markle to nearby Montecito in 2019.
The punk musician, who was formally known by his stage name Johnny Rotten, hit out at the ‘mean’ prince and his wife, telling the Telegraph on Thursday that the pair couldn’t stop talking – despite allegedly asking for privacy .
“If you want to be normal and out [the royal family], then f – – k off. Just f – k off and shut up!” he declared.
Lydon’s accusations against the former royals come as a shock given that the Sex Pistols’ most famous song is the anti-monarchy anthem ‘God Save the Queen’.
The 1977 song – which included the lyrics “God Save the Queen/Fascist Regime” and “God Save the Queen/She’s No Human Being” – shocked many upon its release, with critics claiming it was an “attack” on the Queen Elizabeth II.
Lydon was the lead singer of the Sex Pistols from 1975 to 1978. In the same year, he founded the band Public Image Ltd.
In his interview with the Telegraph, the musician claimed that he had previously been in similar situations as Harry and Markle, feuding with other public figures. However, he had chosen not to publicly complain about his personal grievances.
“I’ve had to make decisions like that in the past,” he said. “I had to leave the Pistols, I had to break up PiL a couple of times because the situation was unsustainable. And if that was their dilemma, please go away, okay? And we’ll love you for it.”
He also described Harry’s recent bombshell memoir Spare as “very mean to family and friends”.
Lydon isn’t the only celebrity to rise up against the royals in recent days.
High-profile British socialite Lizzy Cundy, who was once Markle’s girlfriend, slammed her ex-boyfriend as “selfish” for refusing to attend King Charles III’s upcoming coronation.
“I think Meghan won’t come to the coronation because she knows she’s going to be booed, but she’s putting her own feelings and concerns about not being booed in front of her kids,” Cundy, 54, told the Daily Mirror.
“I think it’s a travesty that Lilybeth and Archie won’t be attending their grandfather’s coronation,” she shared.
It was confirmed on Tuesday that Markle will not be attending the coronation, scheduled for May 6.
Prince Harry will attend the historic event alone amid the couple’s ongoing feud with the royal family.
