Box Result 1 | Box Result 2 MEMPHIS, TN – The Memphis softball team lost back-to-back games on Saturday, falling 6-1 to Indiana and 15-5 to Northwestern State. The Tigers (4-23) struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities all weekend.
“I thought we showed some good things, we’re getting more quality starts from our pitchers and we’re getting some key hits when we need to, we keep talking about that,” the head coach said. Stephanie Van Brackle Prothro. “Softball is simple, pitching and defense win games. We have to continue to do better there and find ways to help each other.”
Indiana 6, Memphis 1
HOW DID IT HAPPEN
• Kendall Lee recorded the first hit of the game as she went to third base in the bottom of the first inning. Lee was initially going to be left out to end the inning.
• Indiana would score the first run as Copeland hit a home run to deep center in the top of the second inning. The Hoosiers added two more runs at bats in the inning.
• Neely Taylor tallied a hit for the Tigers in the bottom of the third inning before being led out on a double play at first base to end the inning.
• The Hoosiers extended their lead with a one-out double to center by Minnick in the top of the fifth inning.
• Kelsey Adams reached base with a single up the middle in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Tigers would leave Adams on base as a pop fly to the leg ended the inning.
• Indiana added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning: Minick doubled to center field, bringing Kern home. Followed by Stone, who singled to right field, allowing Andrews to score.
• Emma Munford came up big for the Tigers, hitting a walk-off single to get Memphis on the board in the bottom of the seventh inning.
SIGNIFICANTS
• Mikayla Hoshak started 3.0 innings and recorded one hit. Hallie Sims would relieve Hoschak in the top of the fourth inning. Sims would go 4.0 innings and record three hits.
• Munford went 1-for-3 with one RBI, her third of the season. Lee went 2-for-3 and led the Tigers with a .344 batting average.
Northwestern State 15, Memphis 5
HOW DID IT HAPPEN
• Northwestern State struck first when L Roos singled to center field, leading Williams to score in the top of the first inning. The Lady Demons added three more runs before ending the inning,
• Meegan Chism blasted a three-run home run to center field, her second of the season, scoring Taylor and Lee to cut the deficit to 4-3 in the bottom of the first inning.
• Northwestern State extended its lead after the Roos reached home on an error by the shortstop in the top of the second inning. The Lady Demons came up with back to back at bats to extend their lead.
• Northwestern State added five runs in four at bats to extend its lead in the top of the second inning.
• Aliana Zavala scored for the Tigers on a sac fly by Lee in the bottom of the second inning.
• Zoe Adebayo led off with an RBI as Taylor advanced in the bottom of the fourth inning for the Tigers.
• The Lady Demons extended the lead again after Cort grounded out, allowing Chaffin to come home in the top of the fifth inning. Northwestern State added three more runs to close out the inning.
SIGNIFICANTS
• Hoschak started 0.1 innings. Riley Duggar came on in relief in the top of the first inning. Duggar went 1.1 innings and recorded one hit.
• Hoschak reentered the game in the top of the second inning, replacing Dugar. Hoschak went 4.2 innings and recorded three hits.
• Six Tigers recorded hits against the Lady Demons: Taylor’s death, Presley Morris, Chism, Lee, Ibison, and Taylor.
• Chism hit his second home run of the season, finishing the game 2-for-3 with three RBI. Lee added one run, one RBI and went 2-for-3.
NEXT
• The Tigers will host Central Arkansas on Tuesday, March 21 at 5:00 pm and the University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff on Wednesday, March 22 at 5:00 pm before the start of conference play.
