Since June, the Pac-12 has been celebrating its rich history of women’s sports through the Power of the Pac Campaign, which marks 50 years since the passage of the landmark Title IX legislation.
The Pac-12 has won 201 women’s national championships and dominated a number of sports since the NCAA began sponsoring women’s athletics in 1981-82. Only in the 2022 calendar year did a Pac-12 member win the women’s soccer national championship (UCLA) , women’s golf (Stanford), beach volleyball (USC), and water polo (Stanford).
Feb. 1 marks National Girls and Women in Sports Day, so Pac-12 schools took to social media to recognize the contributions of women in their athletic departments, from coaches and student-athletes to all staff in between.
To our female student-athletes from the past and present.
To our female coaches and staff.
To future generations watching from the stands.
To the members of the media who cover us.
For all women on the playing fields, on the sidelines and behind the scenes.Happy National Girls and Women in Sports Day! pic.twitter.com/82fx8EXVtK
