President Donald Trump’s latest renovation victim is the White House’s Lincoln Bathroom, a marble-and-gold affair that he shared with his followers on Truth Social on Friday to less-than-enthusiastic reviews.
California Governor Gavin Newsom shared on social media an AI-generated image of Trump impersonating Marie Antoinette, the last queen of France before 1789. the revolution.
“WOW! THE QUEEN HAS A NEW BATHROOM,” Newsom tweeted on his press office account, adding, “(Americans will be out of groceries tomorrow).
It’s not the first time Newsom has drawn parallels between Trump and the ill-fated 18th-century queen, and it’s in line with Newsom’s ongoing online mockery of Trump and his allies.
“I renovated Lincoln’s bathroom in the White House,” Trump announced Friday, revealing before-and-after photos of the Lincoln Bedroom sink.
“It was renovated in the 1940s in an art deco green tile style that was completely inappropriate for the Lincoln era,” he continued.
“I made it out of black and white polished Statuary marble. It was very appropriate for Abraham Lincoln’s time and may actually have been the marble that was originally there!”

Comedian and former presidential speechwriter Jon Lovett pointed out that the inspiration for Trump’s design may not be quite Lincoln-era Kentucky.
“Beautiful and historically accurate, love it,” Lovett wrote. “A lot of people don’t know this, but Abraham Lincoln flipped a lot of houses in Calabasas before he became president.
“…that might be the marble that was originally there!”…in Lincoln’s bathroom. 1861,” commented actress Ellen Barkin, highlighting Trump’s strange appeal to historical accuracy.
Named and renovated by President Harry S. Truman, the Lincoln Bedroom likely only had a white marble fireplace during President Abraham Lincoln’s time.
Statue marble – quarried in Tuscany, Italy and best suited for statues and jewelry – was not widely available in late 19th century America.

“Millions of people are being cut off from food assistance, and millions can no longer afford health care. But don’t worry, everyone! Trump’s got a new bathroom,” political commentator Harry Sisson wrote.
“Such tone deaf, unfamiliar and disgusting.”

Sisson and Newsom mentioned Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) payments, which help feed more than 40 million Americans, could be delayed or stopped starting Saturday because of the ongoing government shutdown.
The Lincoln Bedroom is usually reserved for guests staying at the White House. Since it is not technically a state or official room, its decoration and furnishings do not require official supervision.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt wrote that she was “horrified” to learn that the White House had “such” a toilet.
The renovation is just one part of an ongoing Mar-a-Lago-style makeover that Trump is pushing for the historic complex.
The demolition of the White House’s East Wing sparked controversy last week as a new 90,000-square-foot ballroom was cleared.

It’s the latest and most visible example of Trump giving away areas of the White House, including the Oval Office and the Rose Garden.
