RICHFIELD — In a sea of insurance and Medicare options, shoppers often encounter a fair amount of confusion and pitfalls. Having a partner to help you navigate these waters can be vital, according to Mark Malloy, sales manager at Richfield-based Packard Agency LLC.
“There’s a lot of opportunity — a lot of material is being sent out in the mail, on TV, online — and a lot of people are trying to [shop] himself,” he said. “We can tailor plans to your needs. Insurance is a foreign language to most [but] we speak it very well.
Established in 1979, Packard Agency, located at 4199 Kinross Lakes Parkway, is a distributor of individual, Medicare and group employer benefits products. Malloy said Packard Agency works with most major insurance carriers and the company’s “typical customer” is someone looking for an individual health insurance plan, as well as those over age 65 and eligible for Medicare coverage plans. He added that Packard Agency also serves those 62 to 65 years old who are disabled and eligible for Medicare, and the agency also provides annuity investments for clients.
The company develops Medicare Part D supplement plans and benefit plans; individual health plans; employee group benefits; life, dental and vision insurance; travel insurance; and short-term medical plans.
As for the individual health plan, Malloy said employee health insurance plans are still the norm for most people, but the Packard Agency can also provide advice on those plans.
“There are a lot of people who are still covered by their employers, and that’s our number one recommendation,” he said. “But for some [an employer provided plan] it doesn’t make sense or it’s too expensive.’
Malloy added that Packard Agency also offers plans for sole traders and small businesses.
In addition to more than 40 years of experience in the insurance industry, Malloy said Packard Agency’s personalized service also sets it apart from other agencies.
“What sets us apart, number one, is that we’re a local company,” he said. “We do business in other states, but 95 percent of our business is in Ohio.”
Malloy said the Packard Agency provides free consultations and “clients will never pay us a dime.”
“Insurance companies pay us when we write a plan,” he explained.
He added that the insurance industry is currently in the midst of a “busy time” of the year, with the Medicare open enrollment period for most Medicare recipients running until Dec. 7. The open enrollment period allows both first-time and current recipients to make changes to their plans.
