Patrick Mahomes ownership in business: Chiefs QB counts Whataburger, Royals, Sporting KC among investments

As the holder of the largest contract in NFL history, Patrick Mahomes is, among other things, filthy rich.

This has its advantages. Mahomes has joined numerous blue-chip brands over the course of his career, including State Farm and Head and Shoulders.

Brand deals are one thing, but owning a stake in a brand? Well, that’s real capital.

And Mahomes has a lot.

The Chiefs quarterback has bought numerous businesses, from grocery chains to sports franchises. It has already paid big dividends.

What business does Patrick Mahomes own?

After signing a massive $450 million contract extension in 2020, Mahomes made a series of investments in both local and national franchises. Here are some of the most famous:

Whataburger

Few things represent the lonely star state quite like a good burger. Mahomes should know. Not only was he born in Texas. But he also bought a hefty stake in Whataburger, the Texas-based fast-food restaurant that specializes in burgers and fries. While it’s unclear how much Mahomes has invested in the company, it appears to be making an impact: The company plans to open 30 locations in the Kansas City area by 2027.

Kansas City Royals

As the son of a former MLB player, baseball has always been in Mahomes’ DNA. And while he hasn’t quite followed in his father Pat’s footsteps, he retains a keen interest in the sport — so much so that he purchased a minority stake in his adopted hometown’s MLB team in 2020.

“I am honored to become part owner of the Kansas City Royals. I love this city and the people in this great city,” Mahomes said in a statement. “This opportunity allows me to deepen my roots in this community, which is something I’m excited to do.”

Mahomes is believed to have invested $10 million in the Royals. This is one way to strengthen your ties with the community.

Sporting KC

Mahomes has since added some other sports sides to his repertoire, joining the Sporting Kansas City ownership group in 2021. The MLS club has yet to accomplish much of anything since Mahomes bought a stake. However, with a relatively new stadium and a fanbase known for its vociferous support, don’t be surprised if SKC climbs the league table sooner rather than later.

Kansas City Current

Mahomes isn’t the only one in his family throwing in some bread to help a local sports team. In fact, his wife Brittany — a former student and professional soccer player — became a part owner of the NWSL’s expanding Kansas City franchise in 2021.

Mahomes soon threw his support behind the club, joining the franchise’s ownership group in January 2023. In doing so, he became the active NFL player to have an equity stake in an NWSL side.

“We are so excited to make this a family affair and have Patrick join as an owner,” Brittany Mahomes said in a statement. “He was a huge supporter behind the scenes. His passion for Current is undeniable and I am delighted that he will be with us as we continue on our path to becoming the best in the NWSL.”

AirShare

Mahomes is something of an aerial dominance expert. So it’s no surprise that he also invested in private jet provider AirShare. It’s a partnership that offers Mahomes plenty of breathing room, allowing him to use private jets at his leisure.

Hyperice

As a professional athlete, few things are as important as recovery. Mahomes has stayed pretty healthy throughout his career. A big reason for that is his commitment to getting proper treatment after the game.

As such, Mahomes made sure to throw his bag into something he feels passionate about. Together came HyperIce, a recovery and performance technology brand associated with global stars such as Ja Morant, Naomi Osaka and Amanda Nunes. Mahomes joined the HyperIce team in 2020. The company is currently valued at $700 million.

Wow!

What do Patrick Mahomes and Kevin Durant have in common? Well, apart from being two of the best players in their respective sports and pillars of their local communities, they also share business connections. Mahomes and Durant are among a group of athletes who invested in Whoop, a human performance company that makes fitness trackers. It is valued at over $3 billion.

Patrick Mahomes net worth

According to celebrity net worth, Mahomes has a net worth of 40 million dollars. That’s not bad for a 27-year-old whose value seems boundless given his various business involvements as well as the lavish nature of his contract. Expect that number to grow over the next few years.

Patrick Mahomes career earnings

According to Spotrak, Mahomes has collected a hair more 75 million dollars so far in his career. However, if he were to see his full 10-year extension, Mahomes would score 491 million dollars just from salary. That’s a lot of zeros before you even get to his endorsements and investments.
