Social media rejoices when KJP is fact-checked for promoting X’s ‘Bidenomics’

Critics of the Biden administration on social media seemed grateful after the Community Notes feature on X, formerly Twitter, hit White House press secretary Carine Jean-Pierre with a crowdsourced fact-check.

Conservative X users celebrated the feature to add context to Jean-Pierre’s statement on President Biden’s economic policies — dubbed “Bidenomics” — as a reason for “good economic news.”

Fact-checking confirmed that it’s not Biden’s doing that the economy is looking better, but rather that the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy continue to melt away.

Jean-Pierre shared the X post after the US jobs report fell on Friday.

“We got more good economic news today. 199,000 jobs were added last month,” she wrote. “A total of 14.1 million created under President Biden. This is Bidenomics in action.”

However, using the platform’s “Community Notes” feature, a collection of users added information under the post that read: “It has been documented that almost 72% of jobs since 2021 are simply restored jobs that were lost during the pandemic, was not created.”

As a source, the memo shared a June House Budget Committee press release that said Biden’s job growth was “recovery,” not “creation.”

“Nearly 72 percent of all new jobs since 2021 are simply jobs that have been recovered from the pandemic, not new job creation,” it said. “In fact, when we look at today’s economy compared to pre-pandemic levels, employment has only grown by 3.7 million.”

X users celebrated the note after it was pinned to the post.

OutKick sports commentator Dan Dakich commented, “I love the community notes.”

Conservative author and director Dinesh D’Souza noted, “She’s lying. They catch her. Then he lies again.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis press secretary Brian Griffin slammed the White House official, saying, “Another day, another community note on a White House tweet. The Democrats are lying to you. “Ignore your reality for our narrative so we can stay in power.'”

“There’s only one person in this race who can beat the Democrats in November. This is @RonDeSantis.”

The official account for Rasmussen Reports expressed gratitude for the Community Notes feature, posting: “Good morning! Where would we be without @CommunityNotes? We’d be back in Jack Dorsey’s censorship prison.”

XM radio host Andrew Wilcow said, “She really just says what she wants, doesn’t she?”

And Trump 2024 senior adviser Dan Scavino Jr. responded to Jean-Pierre’s post with an Elf on the Shelf GIF that read: “Stop spreading misinformation. THE ELF IS WATCHING’.

Despite the Biden administration and media insistence that the economy is doing well under the president, a majority of voters — including Democratic voters — don’t feel very positive about the economy: In an October New York Times/Sienna poll, more than 60 percent of Democrats said the economy was “only fair” or “bad” . ”
