Spider-Man Face-Off: What’s the Best Spidey Game of All Time?

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has arrived on PS5 and marks the biggest gaming adventure yet for our favorite friendly neighborhood hero who first entered the gaming world in 1982’s Spider-Man for the Atari 2600. Since then there have been some spectacular and amazing entries in the wallcrawler game production, as well as some that don’t quite live up to Spidey’s good name.

In honor of Spidey’s long history in the video game world and the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we want to know your favorite game featuring the legendary web-slinger. Think Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has already climbed to the top of the Empire State Building-sized games list? Or do you prefer 2004’s Spider-Man 2, the game that first allowed us to feel – in a way – what it must be like to be Spidey and swing around New York?

We’ve selected 35 of the most famous Spider-Man games to pit you against each other two at a time, and we need your help to pick the winner of these battles. Would you choose Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales over Ultimate Spider-Man? Spider-Man: Web of Shadows over Spider-Man and Venom: Maximum Carnage? The great power of choice that comes with great responsibility is all yours.

(And don’t forget, you can skip a Face-Off round if you don’t know a character by simply pressing “skip” at the bottom of the page.)

What is Face-Off?

As the name suggests, Face-Off pits two things against each other and you decide which is the better of the two. In this case, you vote to determine which is the best Spider-Man video game. It’s possible to see certain games multiple times, so you can keep voting for your favorites to make sure they’re ranked higher than the rest. IGN’s resident team of Spidey experts have pre-selected 35 games for you to choose from. They are paired at random, and each time you pick a winner, it’s tracked.

How is the winner determined?

When voting closes at 11:59 PM PT on Monday, October 23rd, we’ll tally up each Spider-Man video game’s total “wins” and “losses” and create a ranked list based on your choices, which will be released on live on Tuesday, October 24. The game winning the most matches will be crowned the “winner” and in the event of a tie, the game with the fewest “losses” will take first place. If you continue to vote for your favorite game, they will have a better chance of ranking high on the list. You can vote as many times as you like until the Face-Off ends.

How do I know when I’ve clicked through everything?

It’s hard to tell when you’ve seen each Spider-Man video game included because they’re randomly matched and there are many possible matches. Playing until you’ve voted for all your favorites or ensuring that certain games don’t make it to the winner’s circle are different options you can take with Face-Off. By determining the winner of all these fights, you ensure that your picks for the best Spider-Man video game have a chance to make it to the top of the list.

Which Spider-Man video games have you included?

The list of Spider-Man video games was selected by IGN’s Spidey experts, and we decided to limit this Face-Off to only games that featured Spider-Man. While we love him in games like LEGO Marvel Super Heroes and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2, we wanted this to focus on games where Spider-Man is the star. We also chose to include Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 even though it was just released because we know many of you can’t wait to spin and speed your way through this new adventure. If you haven’t played it yet, you can skip it!
