The board approves the financial statements | News, Sports, Work

EAST LIVERPOOL — The East Liverpool School Board on Thursday approved numerous finance positions, appointments and resignations.

On the treasurer’s recommendation, the board adopted by an all-yes vote: a resolution on financial statements and distributions, which includes a summary of cash, disbursements and donations for February 2023; contract with The Ohio Floor Company; the creation of the STEM/Robotics Team Club fund account at Westgate Middle School; and audiology services for students through the Eastern Ohio Educational Service Center (Mahoning County) at a cost of $50 per hour.

Resignations accepted by the board include John Burkett, trustee, effective March 24; Janet Stover, administrative assistant to the superintendent, effective June 30; Rachel Briscoe, speech and language pathologist, effective July 1; and Mary Handley, preschool teacher, effective July 1.

Stover and Handley withdraw from their positions. Stover has been with the district since 1973. She was a music educator until 2004. In 2017, she moved to her current position. Handley has been an educator for 37 years, the last eight years in the East Liverpool City School District (ELCSD).

Classified employees approved for hire for the 2022-2023 school year include: Amanda Estelle, spring sports paraprofessional; Patricia Tice, four-hour custodian at North Elementary; Cindy Davis, seven-hour food service worker at North Elementary; and Travis Gillespie, deputy custodian and seasonal casual.

Additional staff approved for hire for the 2022-2023 school year include: Isaac Davidson, varsity boys tennis coach; Morris Brown, middle school girls coach; and Andrea Dobbins, assistant middle school girls track coach.

Additional staff approved for hire for the 2023-2024 school year include: Melanie Rowley, fifth grade counselor; Shawn Yanni, head high school football coach; Brian Vaughn, assistant middle school football coach; Mike Bettura, Andrew English, Alfred Johnson, Robert Ramsey and Alvin Thompson, football preseason; David Raganti, Gaming Club advisor; Brian Kerr, Gaming/E-Sports Club Junior High; Heather Zernich, middle school spelling coordinator; Steven Logston and Jessica Buckner, junior STEM advisor; Alison Jackson, junior high student council advisor; Lauren Higgins, eighth grade volleyball; Jennifer Galanis, seventh grade volleyball; Dylan Kidder, volunteer football coach; and Whitney Taylor Washington, Westgate detention monitor.

At the request of Superintendent Jonathan Ludwig, the board approved the following as certified teaching staff to serve as long-term substitutes for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year: Katie Hamilton, LaCroft Elementary, and Alexis DeGiulio, North Elementary, both at an annual salary of $36 802.40.

Event workers approved for the 2022-2023 school year include: Mary Klein, Kim Pridemore and Bonnie Lascola.

Reduction of one health post at Westgate Middle School and addition of an intervention specialist position at Westgate North East Liverpool Junior High along with the addition of one Junior Math teacher post, one East Liverpool Science Instructor Junior High and one ODE-approved career and technical program at East Liverpool Junior and Senior High School for STEM and Engineering.

At the superintendent’s request, the board approved the school calendar for the 2023-2024 school year and the district’s summer school plan for the 2023-2024 school year. The program will offer a credit recovery program, an artificial intelligence program in partnership with Stanford University, a district-run K-6 summer program at North Elementary School and the Potter Brainery program.

The board also approved funding transportation costs not to exceed $2,728.66 for the 2023 prom and senior trip to Williamsburg, Virginia.

The East Liverpool Board of Education meets every third Thursday at 6pm in the district administration building. The next meeting is scheduled for April 20.
