The Mids head to Music City for a series rematch with Lipscomb

The Navy (5-1) men’s basketball team begins a four-game stretch on the road Wednesday when the Mids travel to Nashville, Tenn., for a noon ET (11 a.m. CT local) tip-off against Lipscomb (4-2).

Five opening remarks
1 – Navy will face Lipscomb for the first time in three seasons and the teams will compete against each other for the first time in Nashville in four years.
2 – The teams met annually from 2017-18 through 2019-20, with the middle game of those three taking place in Tennessee.
3 – Lipscomb is 10th in the nation in field goal percentage (51.7%). The Navy ranks 53rd nationally in the same statistic (48.3%).
4 – Navy’s three-point field goal percentage of 41.1% ranks 11th in the NCAA. The Mids also rank 28th with an average of 10.0 three-point field goals per game. Lipscomb ranks 74th in three-point percentage (37.1%) and 20th in three-point field goals (7.2).
5 – The game starts a four-game road streak for the Mids. Navy last played four straight nonleague games away from Annapolis in 2018-19. The Mids played five straight games away from Alumni Hall during the 2015-16 campaign.

Last game – Navy 75, Mount St. Mary’s 59
• Navy used a 12-2 run to take a 27-14 lead. The Mount closed to within five points at 27-22, but the Mids responded with an 8-0 run to build a 35-22 advantage late in the first half.
• The Mids opened up a 51-30 lead six minutes into the second half and led by at least 15 points for all but 30 seconds remaining in the game.
• Navy had a 19-4 advantage in points scored after turnovers.
The Mids shot 52 percent for the game and limited the Mountaineers to a 39 percent first-half effort and 48 percent shooting for the game.
Tyler Nelson scored 18 points and Daniel Deaver with a total of 14 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals.

About Lipscomb
• Lipscomb compiled a 14-19 overall record last season and placed fourth in the ASUN West Division with a 6-10 record. The Bisons lost in the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament.
• The Bisons are tied for sixth in this year’s 14-team ASUN preseason poll.
• Lipscomb is out of contention after recording a 72-66 win at Chattanooga on Nov. 23. The win raised his record to 4-2 on the year. One of the team’s losses was a 66-65 defeat at Notre Dame.

Navy-Lipscomb series
• Navy and Lipscomb met for the first time during the 2017-18 season in Annapolis. It was the first of three consecutive seasons in which the teams competed against each other.
• Lipscomb has won all three previous games, including a 2018-19 game that was the only previous game played in Nashville.

Navy vs ASUN
• Navy compiled a 2-11 record against teams currently in the ASUN.
• Lipscomb is the only ASUN Navy team to play this season.

Lipscomb vs. Patriotic League
• Lipscomb posted a 4-0 record against Patriot League teams.
• The only Patriot League opponent outside of Navy the Bisons have faced is Loyola, and that game was played last season in Charleston, South Carolina
• Navy is the only Patriot League team Lipscomb has played this year.
