A look at what’s going on at Cleveland State Athletics…
Softball
-Cleveland State returns home for a three-game series against Detroit Mercy this weekend, hosting one game on Friday, April 7th and a doubleheader on Saturday, April 8th.
-Last outing, Vikings took two of three at Northern Kentucky, earning their first #HLSB series win of the season.
-Melissa Holzopfel threw a no-hitter in the first game Saturday, marking the first no-hitter for the Vikings since 2010.
Lacrosse
– Cleveland State will be back on the road this week, traveling to Mercer for an ASUN contest on Saturday, April 8.
-Last time out, the Vikings dropped a pair of games against No. 10 Jacksonville and Air Force.
– Freshman Xander Johnson recorded back-to-back hat tricks last week, finishing with three goals against Jacksonville and Air Force One.
Men’s golf
– Cleveland State will have a week off from competition, returning to the court on Monday, April 10 for the Jewell Invitational.
-The Vikings finished fifth as a team at the Butler Spring Invitational last week, led by Jack Hanus, who finished T-11 after going 1-over par for the three rounds.
Golf women
-The Vikings will have a busy week on the course, competing in the EKU Colonel Classic (Monday, April 3 and Tuesday, April 4) and the YSU Invitational (Friday, April 7).
-The Vikings finished fifth as a team last time out at the NKU Spring Invitational, paced by Mandie Ruminski, who finished T-5 at 4-over par – her second consecutive top-10 finish.
Men’s tennis
– Cleveland State will continue Horizon League action at MMTP this weekend, hosting Youngstown State on Thursday, April 6 and Chicago State on Saturday, April 8.
-The Vikings went perfect in #HLTennis play last time out, posting a 6-1 win at Chicago State to improve to 15-6 overall and 3-0 in league play.
-Raul Teichmann became the first Viking to record 20 singles wins this season with a win at No. 4 singles against Chicago State, marking the second 20-win campaign of his career.
Tennis women
-The Vikings will return home to continue #HLTennis play this weekend, hosting Milwaukee on Friday, April 7th and Chicago State on Saturday, April 8th.
-Cleveland State dropped its Horizon League opener to Youngstown State last time out, 5-2.
-Oihane Vicario recorded Cleveland State’s only singles win of the day, improving to 5-1 against league opponents in regular season games for his career.
Athletics
-The Vikings will continue their outdoor campaign at the Oakland Invite this weekend, with action taking place on Friday, April 7th and Saturday, April 8th.
-Cleveland State combined for 12 top-10 individual finishes at the Bob Kahn Invitational last time out, led by Ariana Coates, who posted a third-place finish in the 5,000 meters.

Ariana Coats, Athletics
Paced the Vikings at the Bob Kahn Invitational with a third-place finish in the 5,000 meters, posting a career-best time of 19:08.29.
Carl Gedlicka, men’s tennis
Wins in singles and doubles against Chicago State, helping Vikings stay perfect in #HLTennis play. Won 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 at No. 5 singles and a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles with JuandeDios Abboud.
Melissa Holzopfel, softball
Went 2-0 with a 1.16 ERA in two complete game starts at NKU. Tossed a no-hitter in Saturday’s opener, striking out 15 of the 16 batters he faced. Held NKU hitless for eight straight innings in the two games combined and totaled 16 strikeouts against just four walks in 12 innings of work.
Mandy Ruminski, Women’s Golf
Finished fifth at the NKU Spring Invitational after finishing at 4-over par for the tournament, recording his second straight individual top-10 finish.
