What is the coolest concept car of the 21st century?

The past 22 years have provided us with a vast library to choose from

Automotive design is a topic of conversation that never seems to get old. Over the last 22 or so years, we’ve seen super futuristic designs and ones that deliberately looked back to the past for inspiration. But who is the coolest all this time? That’s up for debate in today’s QOTD.

There are no rules for today’s question, other than the fact that it must be a concept from 2000 or later. Digital concepts also count as long as they are from an actual automaker. This leaves the door wide open for cars that never came close to production to those that have clearly signaled the future of their brands. Here are just a few to think about.

The Mercedes-Maybach Vision 6 Cabriolet deserves a special mention for finding a way to be futuristic and retro at the same time. It clearly leans on its brand identity while at the same time being far from anything that could be called a cynical cash grab.

More: Lexus LFA successor rumored to launch as a hybrid, then become an electric supercar

There are a number of other great options as well. Lamborghini introduced us to the Estoque and Asterior, the latter of which may inspire the brand’s first all-electric car in 2027. The Honda Sports EV and Mazda RX Vision also featured great styling and a small glimpse of their brand’s futures.

Local companies also provided interesting concepts. The Chevrolet Code 130R, Ford Interceptor and Jeep Wrangler Trailcat are all quite attractive in their own way.

If I had to pick just one, it would just be the digital Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo. Sure, it’s not real and it never could be (as far as we know), but it was powered by laser guys. LASERS. It also gets points for perfectly characterizing what Chaparral was, a wild, forward-thinking, ahead-of-its-time racing company.

So now that we’ve given you some food for thought, which 21st century concept do you think is the coolest? If you had the money to revive any of these, which would you put in your garage? Let us know in the comments below and don’t forget to vote for your favorites!
