With more people keeping their cars longer these days, you have to wonder why. The most likely reason is that they like certain key features in it. TrueCar recently sent out a survey to find out how much drivers love their cars and why, and the results were pretty interesting.
Let’s dig into the research and find out which type of vehicle is most likely to be loved by owners and why.
Which car owners are most likely to love their car?
Of all respondents to TrueCar’s survey of how well people like their vehicles, 59% reported loving their cars. Another 38% said they were just settling down. They neither loved nor hated their vehicle, but it was enough to get them where they needed to go.
The type of vehicles most likely to have enamored owners are hatchbacks and station wagons. The survey found that 68% of owners said they loved their wagons. This is surprising since they were removed from most production lines, with only a few still being produced.
However, those who buy wagons know exactly what they’re looking for, and that’s probably storage space. Wagons can have just as much, if not more, cargo space than an SUV. Some vehicles produced today are simply station wagons that have been slightly transformed to look like a crossover, which is the second most popular type of vehicle on the market. The Subaru Outback is a good example of this.
Why do car owners love their vehicles?
The survey showed that a good percentage of car owners have fallen in love with their vehicles, but you might be wondering what makes them fall in love with their daily driver. There are a few points that TrueCar shared in reporting the results.
1. Comfortable
Car owners have reported that the vehicles they own and love are very comfortable to drive. While the survey didn’t go into detail about what vehicles respondents owned, we can imagine quite a few cars, SUVs, and trucks that would be considered comfortable to drive. Luxury vehicles are perhaps the most loved when it comes to comfort. Take the BMW i4 M50 as an example.
2. Safety
Respondents say they love their vehicles because they feel safe driving them. Many of today’s newer cars and SUVs come with state-of-the-art safety equipment and features that make driving much safer than decades ago.
3. Reliability
Who wouldn’t want to spend good money on a vehicle that lasts a long time without having too many major problems? Some cars on the road today lack this level. A large number of respondents were able to find reliable cars to drive.
Causes some owners to hate their car
The survey showed how many owners loved or liked their vehicle, but how many do you think hated their car? It might surprise you to know that only 3 percent of those who responded to the survey actually hate their vehicles.
The reasons given for their dislike are:
1. Lack of features
The survey found that 26% of those who hate their vehicles say it’s because they lack some key features that other cars have. These will include items such as Bluetooth connectivity and navigation systems.
2. I didn’t like the style
Another 8% of respondents reported hating their vehicle because of the way it looked. It was just too ugly when you compare it to other cars on the market.
It’s also interesting to note that while German car owners are likely to like them, they’re also likely to replace them fairly quickly. The reasons given were that these vehicles were too expensive to maintain and the people who tended to buy them were more interested in the latest and greatest and would likely trade them in for the next big thing.
Wagons and hatchbacks are the most likely to win over their owners, as TrueCar’s research revealed they are the most likely to be loved. This shouldn’t be too surprising as these vehicles tend to have the most storage space and families are always looking for room to expand their hauls.
