Women’s veneers prompt brutal comparisons, raising the question Has the trend in cosmetic dentistry gone too far?

A video of a woman’s trip to the dentist to get veneers on her teeth has gone viral online and now the patient’s new bright whites are getting comparisons to comedian Steve Harvey’s pockets.

Veneer makeovers have been trending for a while now as people share their experiences online. Cosmetic Lane’s X account shared the video on the platform on December 28, and the video has been viewed more than 11 million times. A woman is seen smiling for the camera before getting her teeth done, as well as after her ‘Venue Transformation’, and her new teeth look good. However, many noted that her new teeth may be almost perfect, and comparisons to Harvey’s remarkable smile followed online.

Dental veneers are thin composite, porcelain, or zirconia shells that attach to a person’s front teeth. They are intended to improve the shape, size, color and appearance of the teeth.

Many X users thought the woman already had perfect teeth and just needed whitening treatment, not veneers. “All she needed was to go white and instead she walked away looking like a descendant of Steve Harvey :/,” one user replied. Another X user echoed the moods. “She didn’t even need veneers, now she looked like Steve Harvey.”

Another X user wrote: “A girl’s veneers became popular ‘Steve Harvey’ and ‘Invisalign.’ ugh.”

The debate continued as many wondered if the veneers trend in cosmetic dentistry had gone too far. Several celebrities who have seemingly gotten veneers have drawn the ire of online trolls after sharing photos of their dental surgeries on social media.

In 2018, “Love and Hip Hop” star Juelz Santana debuted his new braces provided by Dr. Daniel Rubinshtein in New York after losing his front teeth due to drug abuse. New veneers can be expensive and can cost a person between $500 and $2,500 per tooth. Santana’s new smile won the attention of 50 Cent, who said the veneer trend is “going far now.”

Miami rapper Trick Daddy also got new facets after wearing a grill for decades. The musician reportedly spent $60,000 on dental work after neglecting his teeth for decades. Rapper Place also had dental work done after wearing a grill for years and showed off his bright whites on Instagram in 2021.

Another mercilessly dragged personality was King Harris, son of rapper TI Harris, after premiering his new pearly white clothes on Instagram in August. Coincidentally, Harris was also compared to Harvey after the debut.

“Now why he gave this little boy big teeth – steve harvey,” one user replied. “This little one can take a bite out of crime,” joked another.

Harvey is often the target of jokes for his mega-white smile and sometimes shares social media posts mocking him on his own social media pages. In one post, the comedian shared a photo of a cheeseburger with onions, which fans said looked like him with inscription“Stop sending me those $!&# [laughing crying emoji].”

According to The Washington Post, singer Selena Gomez, former Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes and Kim Kardashian have had veneers. However, Jasper Family Dental notes that they can have negative side effects, including tooth sensitivity when eating cold or hot foods, pain and discomfort, pulpal injury, and gum inflammation.
