The continuous prevalence of 128 GB of storage on flagship phones for a while is nervous. Not only because the 128 GB no longer works for Premium, but also because there is not enough space to store the contents of a modern phone without loading its pile into the cloud.
Telephone manufacturers have slowly removed the 128GB option from their most expensive phones, but now it seems that the 128GB era may be completed as the “standard” option can be completed. And all thanks to the Apple and iPhone 17 launch.
All four new iPhone not only start at 256 GB, but also at the initial iPhone 17 received a storage renewal without prices incurred by Pro models.
128 GB of memory problem

There was a point when the 128 GB of storage felt like limitless, but those days had long been gone. Over the past few years, the needs of our vaults have exploded completely. Not only due to increased higher resolution and better quality cameras, but also how much additional space is needed for programs and updates.
Even artificial intelligence is what phone makers are convinced that we have to have all our devices, gradually occupying more and more expensive space. Last time I updated my iPhone 15 Pro, Apple Intelligence took a little less than 7 GB of space.
It may not look much, but it is twice as much as Apple Ai, used at the beginning of the year, is twice as much – and this will only increase over time.
Combine it with all the spaces you need for the system functions, free space to install updates and all other things you really can’t remove from your phone, and suddenly the amount of space you have is quite small. Although it was controlled, Time telephone manufacturers have taken advantage of the 128GB option in total.
Apple to rescue

Before we reveal the AWE Dispering Event and iPhone 17, we didn’t really expect Apple to go a distance. There were rumors that the iPhone 17 Pro would eliminate 128GB models with a relative price price of $ 100. Later, the leaks suggested that the iPhone Air would also start at 256 GB, but the iPhone 17 would keep the 128GB option at least next year.
Imagine our surprise when Apple got involved. Not only did this eliminate the 128GB option in the cheapest iPhone 17, but also maintained the same price as last year. So someone picking up an iPhone 17 still pays $ 799, but gets twice as much as a storage compared to last year.
These include other updates, such as advertising screen, 48MP ultravido camera and improved central stage camera at the top.
It is important that Apple did it too. Despite how you feel in the company or its products, its dominance in the smartphone market means that everything it does has weight. If Samsung or Google were making the same change, it would not have been told how its competitors would respond.
But since Apple is the one who takes the position against 128 GB of storage models, you can be sure that other Premium phone manufacturers will pay attention. Because, let’s be honest, every time Apple has a new idea, others copy it over a year or two. Given the simple change, I hope it will happen sooner than later.
128 GB will not disappear but it should leave flagships
128GB phones will not disappear overnight simply because Apple has made this change. After all, 64GB phones are still there, even if they are usually some of the cheapest smartphones that can be bought.
If any, the 128GB option may appear a valuable limit between medium and highest quality phones. Depending on how much the lines are blurred and the premium features appear cheaper phones, a strong difference is a useful comparison tool.
So, while I hope the top quality phone market will follow Apple lead and ditch 128 GB options, those of you who want to have a storage of this level should still have opportunities. Options that can save money, still ensuring that you get a strong feature choice. Exactly as long as you can properly control the files.
