As a child, you were probably told to drink milk because it is good for your bones. This is true: cow’s milk contains calcium and vitamin D, two nutrients that are very important for bone health. Just as some drinks support bone health, other drinks can weaken your bones. This is especially important to remember when aging. A popular drink that negatively affects bone health for over 60 years
You can already know that soda can increase the risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular health. “Diet soda is the same level of phosphoric acid as regular baking soda,” says Dr. Kim. In addition, Dr. Lucas explains that artificial sweeteners in dietary soda drinks can also be harmful. “Artificial sweeteners can change intestinal health and glucose regulation, which both play an important role in bone reconstruction. Thus, although the diet soda avoids sugar, it does not eliminate bone health risk,” he shares.

With that in mind, unfortunately no matter what type of soda you choose, you regularly drink that your bones do not benefit. Instead of soda, Doctor Kim recommends drinking cow’s milk (due to high calcium) or water, which moisturizes the body without adversely affecting calcium absorption. Dr Lucas says unsweetened herbal tea is also a great choice.
Apart from changing the choice of drink, there are many other ways to strengthen the bones, and it’s never too late to accept them. Both doctors recommend eating regular foods rich in calcium, such as leafy greens, dairy products, almonds and tofu.
