CCFES noted that “the scene has caused immediate concern about the use of the object’s employment and compliance with the Fire Code, which has led to the report of the Clayton County Fire Marshal office for further investigation.”

The director of the Church confirmed to the authorities that it was used as a “board and supervision house” for young people under the care of the CCFE of the State Family and Children’s Services Department. However, the authorities said the Church lacks “significant fire and life safety updates” to be assigned as one.

She noted that the church allegedly lacked a functioning fire alarm system, automatic fire spray system, properly built fire extinguishers and “to meet all other applied safety codes”, among other things.

“Due to violations and direct life safety risk, CCFES staff created an emergency evacuation plan,” CCFES said, adding that the staff returned and “evacuated all minors from the premises” later in the evening.
