Air Canada was suspended on the third day, as the carrier’s flight attendants continued to be on Monday, 18 August.
Initially, the airline was hoping to resume flights on Sunday, August 17, after the federal agency oversees Canadian Labor Laws. The Canadian Industrial Communications Board instructed airline 10,000 striking flights to return to work on Sunday at 2 p.m. Et. However, the union representing the airline satellites – the Canadian Union of State Employees (Cupe), was opened to ask the crew to remain a strike until August 18.
“Cupe National President Mark Hancock said loudly and clearly that our members would not return to work until the government tells the Air Canada back to the negotiating table where we can reach a preliminary agreement for our members to vote,” the union said in a statement.
Ever since the strike began on August 16, Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge were fully justified. It is still believed that about 500,000 customers have been canceled by their flights. Below everything should know.

How long will the Air Canada flight satellite strike last?
At this point, it is unclear when the strike may end. The Minister of Workplaces of Canada Patty Hajdu has transposed negotiations on arbitration, not traditional agreements on August 16, extending the expiry of the flight satellites until a new one can be agreed. Then Monday, the Union allowed the second order of the Canadian government to return to work at noon Et.
Legally, this means that both union and individual flight attendants may be subject to fines or even prison time. However, flight attendants said they would remain strike despite those opportunities. “If that means people like me go to prison, then be so,” Hancock said at a press conference on Monday afternoon. “If this means that our union is fined, then be so. We want a solution here. Our members want a solution. But that decision needs to be found at the negotiating table.”
The carrier said he hoped the flights operated by Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge would partially update Monday, August 18. However, flight attendants resisted, saying that on Monday they did not intend to return to work. “If Air Canada thinks that planes will fly this afternoon, they are very mistaken,” Hancock said. “It won’t be today.”
What if your flight is affected
Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge initially planned to resume about 240 August 2011, before the Union announced that the entire flight attendant would continue their walk. Typically, two carriers operate about 700 flights a day, reports Air Canada.
“Customers whose flights are canceled [to] Airport, unless they are not confirmed on other airlines, “Air Canada said in airline report. Will offer those with canceled flights, including full refund or credit for future trips. The carrier will also offer customers to other carriers, although due to the peak summer travel season, the capacity is currently limited. ‘
Although passengers can receive full return and new flights – even for alternate carriers – airlines do not need to provide any additional compensation, as Canadian laws are considered non -carrier control under the carrier’s control. “According to the rules for the protection of Canadian airlines in Canada, customers are unable to receive compensation for deferred or canceled flights, food, hotels or other random expenses for a carrier, such as a working disorder,” the airline said. “In all cases, Air Canada will inform passengers of their rights in accordance with the applicable rules if their flight is canceled or delayed and its regulatory obligations.”
Why are Air Canada satellites struck?
August 13 Flight satellites first announced a report of 72 hours, after an almost unified vote, which confirmed 99.7% of the Union that they had left work if necessary. Union since 2025 March Coordinated a new contract and says that the airline is refusing to “negotiate the basic issues correctly, such as unpaid work, labor rules and poverty levels.”
Currently, their contract is free of their contract satellites for large parts of their work, such as critical security checks, visiting medical and safety in emergencies, and when boarding and depleting, Cupe reports. Air Canada is paid an hourly wage to flight attendants since the boarding door closes before it opens. Cupe says the initial salary of flight satellites increased by 10% (or $ 3) in 25 years, despite the fact that the average wage in Canada has increased by 210% over the same period.
Air Canada says she proposed an agreement for flight attendants, including 38% of the total compensation in four years, a new provision for land and other work and salary improvements. “Air Canada negotiates with Cupe for eight months and, although we have solved many items, none of them needed discounts, we remain far from the main issues,” the airline said in a report before the strike.
A recent Cupe survey showed that 59% of Canadians supported flight attendants’ right to strike – even if it caused travel problems. “The Canadians clearly stand on the side of justice – with flight attendants,” Wesley Lesosky, president of Air Canada component Air Canada, said.
At the press conference on Monday, the Union also apologized to hundreds of thousands of travelers who were caught in the middle of a labor dispute. “We are sorry that people are trapped all over the world,” Hancock said. “It wasn’t something we wanted to be an impact. We regret that they got it.”
