One lucky person in Georgia just won the Mega Millions jackpot.
On Friday, Nov. 14, a ticket purchased in Newnan, Georgia, about 37.7 miles southwest of Atlanta, matched all six jackpot numbers to win $983 million.
The historic ticket, which had a net worth of $453.6 million. $, also the largest lottery win in state history.
“We are thrilled to welcome the biggest winner in our state’s history,” Gretchen Corbin, president and CEO of the Georgia Lottery, said in a statement. “For every Mega Millions ticket sold in Georgia to support HOPE and Pre-K, Georgia students and families are also big winners. We thank our players and retailers for their support of our mission.”
This is already the fifth in 2025. Mega Millions jackpot after June 27 348 million won in Virginia. USD prize, USA TODAY previously reported.

How to play Mega Millions
You must buy a ticket to play Mega Millions. You can do this in a variety of places, including your local convenience store, gas station, or even the grocery store. Mega Millions tickets can be purchased online in some states.
Once you have your ticket, you have to choose six numbers. Five of these will be white balls with numbers from 1 to 70. The golden Mega Ball ranges from 1 to 24.
If you’re feeling particularly unlucky or don’t want to go through the hassle of choosing, you can request a Quick Pick or an Easy Pick. These options allow the computer to generate random numbers.
Mega Millions tickets now have a built-in multiplier that increases non-jackpot prizes by two, three, four, five or 10 times. Previously, players had to pay an extra dollar to add the Megaplier.

Tickets can be purchased in person at gas stations, convenience stores and grocery stores. Some airport terminals may also sell lottery tickets.
