The brothers Menendez were not allowed on probation. These are the factors that keep them behind bars

The California Board did not allow Erik and Lyle Menendez to released parole this week after decades of prison for the fact that 1989 Killed their parents in their Beverly Hills Manor.

Within two days, the brothers were interviewed by the two groups of commission members and asked for complete harassment to talk about childhood abuse, their mindset leading to and after and after various prisons.

Brothers 1996 Were sentenced to life imprisonment for a deadly shot in them and Kitty Menendez. The case has long been fascinated by real crime enthusiasts, and the brothers have accumulated public support last year after performances to Netflix.

The hearing noted that the closest ones were freedom from their beliefs. Despite every denial of three years, they will be able to ask for an administrative review within one year. If they are given, they may appear before the probation board for another 18 months.

Here are the takers from the hearing:

Prohibited cell phones are not a minor prison violation

Although this may not seem that an unfamiliar society, the commissioners emphasized the brothers that the illegal cell phones they use to provide a shadow to their positive achievements, but behind bars.

They noted that cell phones could be used to order hits, transfer drugs in prison and coordinate attacks on officers. Their presence meant that the correctional officer had to carry them, and the prison gang could have been useful by taxing the tax, Commissioner Robert Barton told Erik Menendez.

“What I got on the phone and my connection to the outside world was much bigger than the consequences when I caught my phone,” said Erik Menendez. He said he used it to talk to his wife, watch Youtube, listen to music and watch pornography.

Erik Menendez’s wife Tammi Menendez, the center, leaves the Van Nails West Court House after the status of Lyle and Erik Menendez’s murder.

By denying him on probation, Barton said his behavior was “selfish”, the sign, in his opinion, the rules not applicable to him, and “the ends justify the measures.”

Lyle Menendez also had two latest cell phones, including one March.

He said correctional staff monitors his relationship with his wife and family and sold their contents to tabloid publications, so he saw cell phones as a means of privacy.

His marriage was “a lot of stress” when he moved to prison in San Diego, and he wanted to keep in touch with his wife.

“I am convinced that it was not a means that was detrimental to anyone but in violation of the rules,” Lyle Menendez said. “I didn’t think it really disrupted prison management.”

They were not exemplary prisoners as some believed

Of these, Erik Menendez committed more serious violations of the rules.

The members of the commission questioned why he associated himself with a prison gang, called two fivers, and helped them according to 2013. The tax scheme.

Menendez said he was trying to survive a “extremely brutal courtyard” where close friends were beaten or raped.

“I’m afraid of great fear,” he said. “When both of the fires came and asked for help, I thought it was a great opportunity to reconcile themselves and survive them.”

Menendez told the members of the commission that he was prioritized, not because of the rules, because he had no hope of ever going out.

In the early years he used drugs and alcohol behind bars, but in 2013 During his mother’s birthday, he became sober, he said.

Although Lyle Menendez committed fewer violations, Julie Garland, a member of the commission, said he was still demonstrating “anti -social personality traits such as deception, minimizing and breaking the rules, which are under that positive surface.”

Prisoners who violate the rules are also more likely to do so in society, she said.

Why did they kill their mother

Commissioners expressed concern about the murder of Kitty Menendez. Barton said he showed that it showed that Erik Menendez was not “human compassion” at the time.

“I can’t find myself in your place. I don’t know that someday I have ever been raised to that level,” Barton said. “However, this is still related, especially since it seems to have been a victim of domestic violence.”

Barton said the brothers had not filled the fear of their lives and had to seek help from other family members or go to the police.

When it comes to Lyle Menendez, Garland said the Kitty Menendez shooting was extremely “rude”. She also emphasized his actions by covering the crime, such as lying to the police and trying to avoid prosecution.

Probation denials are not unheard of to prisoners with “average risk”

The head of government Gavin Newsom has previously ordered the California probation Board to carry out a risk assessment of the brothers in response to a claim for shame.

Although he was never made public, Nathan Hochman, a lawyer for Los Angeles County, revealed in May that both brothers were considered “average risk.”

Barton said this assessment was neutral as much as he was considering.

Following the prison policy initiative in 2022 The analysis showed that California prisoners with “average risk” were given a probation of 22% of the time. A non -profit state was one of the most difficult to get probation.

Family members bring back brothers

More than a dozen relatives spoke at two meetings to advocate for their release.

Aunt Teresita Baralt, the sister of Jiendez, said she dies from stage 4 cancer and wants to congratulate them at home.

“I want to make it clear that even though I love my brother, I completely forgived Erik,” she said. “Erik brings kindness, honesty and strength that comes from patience and grace.”

Natascha Leonardo, Kitty Menendez’s great -grandfather, promised a probation board to give him a “unconditional love and stability” home in Colorado, where he could spend time with family and nature.

Family members said in a statement that although they are disappointed with probation probation, they are not discouraged.

“We know they are good men who have done their jobs to rehab and regret,” they said. “We love them unconditionally and will continue to stand on their journey ahead.”
