US magistrate judge Lindsey Vaala expressed confusion and surprise in some seven -minute court session, when the federal jury, taking Alexandria, Virginia, in Virginia returned the indictment Former FBI director James Comomey Thursday night.
According to a transcript of the process received by CBS News, Judge Vaala asked for a newly named temporary US lawyer Lindsey Halligan – Former Trump’s personal lawyer – why there were two versions of the indictment.
Great Great Jury, looking at the Comey affair voted for his tax -free With one of the three calculations submitted by prosecutors in the form signed by the Great Jury Chairman and filed the court. He was accused of two more cases by making false statements to Congress and obstructing the Congress process – after the 14 of the 23 jurors voted favorably, the President told the judge.
However, the two versions of the indictment were published in the case document: one with a third number, and one without. The transcript reveals why this happened.
“So this has never happened. I have been given two documents that are in a Mr Comey case that are incompatible with each other,” said Vaala Halligan. “It seems to be a discrepancy. They both sign (the great jury) chairman.”
And she noted that one document clearly did not state what the great jury decided.
“The one who says that inability agrees with the accusation does not say one number,” Vaala said. “It looks like they couldn’t agree with all three calculations, so I’m a little confused why I was given two things with the same case number that is inconsistent.”
Initially, Halligan replied that he had not seen the version of that indictment.
“So I reviewed only one with two calculations that our office was redesigned when we learned about two – two cases that were actually dedicated and I signed it. I didn’t see the other. I don’t know where it came from,” Halligan told the judge.
Vaala replied, “You didn’t see that?” And Halligan said to her again, “I haven’t seen it.”
Vaala looked surprised: “So your office did not prepare the indictment act they”
Then Halligan replied, “No, no, ne-i-no, I prepared three numbers. I only signed one to two persons (the accused act). I don’t know which of the three calculations you have in your own hands.”
“Okay. It contains your signature,” said Vaala Halligan, who replied, “Okay. Well.”
Vaala also noted that the court session began unusually late, Thursday night at 6:47 pm, saying to the big jurors, “I don’t think we’ve ever met” because she thanked them for their service.
