2025 In the summer, Mary Anne Macleod Trump, the mother of President Donald Trump, is attributed to US President Donald Trump’s mother. The alleged quote states, “Yes, it is an idiot with zero common sense and has no social skills, but he is my son. I hope he will never go into politics. He would be a disaster.”
Many Internet users shared a quote what the newspaper clippings were. Examples appeared in reports on social media platforms including Thread (archived) Facebook (archived) and Bluesky (archived).

First we looked at the authenticity of this quote in 2019. And we did not find any evidence that the Trump’s mother had never made such a statement. Other publications such as Politicalt and Reuters also checked the quote and found no evidence that it was real.
Because digital archives of newspapers, books and magazines grow and change over time – it means that new evidence of historical statements can always be found – we looked at the quote again after it began to circulate again within a few months during the Trump campaign and after 2024. In the US presidential election.
In short, as in 2019, we did not find convincing evidence to support the correctness of the quote at the time of this writing.
We have been looking for all quotes as well as exceptional conditions “he is an idiot, having no common sense” and “I hope he never delves into politics” in newspapers.com and “end Onefile”, both of which are large database of periodicals, and found no evidence to support the authenticity of the quote. We also searched for a quote in Google Books and the Internet archive, which also did not receive any evidence that the quote ever appeared with a safe assignment in any legal publication.
There were no cases in the quotation search in the Google search until 2019, almost two decades after Mary Anne Macleod Trump 2000. August Of death. The fact that the suspected initiator’s life does not contain any evidence related to the quote is a common red flag forged or incorrectly assigned quotes.
One of the 2019 There were scraps of the alleged newspaper showing a quote after a short photo of his mother, which appeared (archived), which was first distributed (archived) online by 2020. June

However, we did not find evidence that the clippings were real. Although the suspected haircut was a true photo of Trump and his mother, which was well visible in 2016. In the New Yorker article, “Donald Trump Immigrant Mother”, we found no photos paired with a quote in any real newspaper or magazine.
It remains that the main source proving the authenticity of the quote exists somewhere – for example, in a newspaper archive that was not digitized at this writing – and for this reason we refrained from the final assessment.
In the past, we had examined the claim that Trump’s mother was an immigrant who had no documents.
