LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Las Vegas construction workers rushed to cover the fence at Elon Musk’s The Boring Company Vegas Loop site after a visible body of liquid formed off a busy street near the Strip.
8 News Now cameras captured construction crews working on a visible, deep pond about the size of a tennis court at the former Firefly restaurant site in Las Vegas on Wednesday afternoon.

Some construction workers asked the 8 News Now crew why they were recording The Boring Company’s website while on a public sidewalk. One worker was given a business card and explained what was in the visible pond and who made it.
“I know who you are,” said the site worker. “You’re fake news.”
The apparent pond is visible from photos on the Clark County website, and an older aerial photo shows that the pond was once larger and ran alongside the Fairview Inn Las Vegas hotel.

Shortly after 8 News Now arrived at the site, construction crews began putting a black tarp over the fence and an extra layer over the site’s razor wire.
“You’re not on private property, but privacy is expected,” a site worker told 8 News Now crews standing on the public sidewalk. “You can watch from private-public property. Not over a fence.
8 News Now asked the site worker who he was with and if there was security for the project.

“You know who I am,” said the site worker.
A source familiar with the project told 8 News Now the company was recently fined nearly $500,000 for the violation. This was done after 2023. A Nevada OSHA investigation found eight violations, chemical burns to nearly 20 workers and more than $100,000 in fines for safety violations at the underground Vegas Loop project.
The Boring Company then challenged the 2023 research findings.
in 2024 A Clark County official has accused The Boring Company of illegally dumping wet dirt before committing to a fix.
Last month, A cease-and-desist letter from Nevada environmental officials cited an alleged 100 new violations totaling nearly $3 million. A county commissioner was quoted in the story as saying approvals for the project would not have been issued if conditions were not safe.
It is unclear what the pond along Paradise Road is and whether it poses a health risk.
Nevada OSHA and The Boring Company have not yet responded to 8 News Now’s requests for comment on the apparent ponding.
