00:00 Speaker A
what are we looking for?
00:02 And
Yes, there are some big stories for this week. Oh, you know, obviously we’re reporting on Microsoft, Meta, Google, Amazon, and Apple. So basically this is a dispute between these corporate killers. I think, you know, the conversation at Microsoft is going to be, what’s going on with Open AI? Where is that deal they are working on. They have a memorandum of understanding. They talked about it or remember it
00:30 And
understanding they talked about it in September. Oh, and it’s all about open AI going to a non-profit public benefit corporation and how that process will turn out and what that means for Microsoft’s stake in the company, and what that means for how much time it spends on Azure. Also, we’re looking at Amazon. Hopefully we’ll get more information on what they’re doing in AI. How much does it compete with
01:00 And
Microsoft and Google, obviously Microsoft has open AI, Google has Gemini. Amazon doesn’t really have anything like that. Sure, they have a deal with Anthropic, but Anthropic just announced that they’re also partnering with Google, where Google will give them TPUs to train and control their AI. So, you know, they already had this contract with Google. This is an extension of it. So Amazon doesn’t really have anything like that. We also want to know more about that AWS failure. Meta at the front
01:29 And
we look forward to learning more about ad spend, whether AI continues to increase it, and what that looks like for user engagement. Apple wants to know more about the iPhone and iPhone sales. We heard that the iPhone 17 saw an increase in sales in the US and China last year compared to the iPhone 16. This was during the first 10 days of availability. Well, some people, like Edison Lee at Jeffries, are basically saying that the pace is starting to slow down and that could mean that bad
01:54 And
news Apple, if you know that the sales of these types of devices are higher when it comes to professional or even basic models, it will be very important for the actual movement of the stock. And since they’re close to that $4 trillion mark, a good beat could push them over. We just have to see when they announce it on Thursday.
02:16 Speaker A
Um, Dan, it’s not just going to be about earnings numbers. You mentioned some of the ad spend mentioned, like meta, but obviously the capex will also be interesting to see if we get any updates on that.
02:27 And
Yeah, I mean, these companies basically just, you know, they’re not burning money, they’re burning money when they’re building their data centers. But it’s not just about data centers, it’s also about hiring. Oh, Meta, for example, has put on a bit of a show where they go out and hire a lot of these AI experts for hundreds of thousands, sometimes up to a million dollars in pay packages. So it will be interesting to see what those numbers are
02:56 And
It seems that if meta grows, not only meta, but also Microsoft, Amazon and Google. You know, Apple isn’t really in this race. Oh, they’re just a consumer tech company. Yeah, you know, they’re definitely working on their AI, but they’re not necessarily going to be a flagship product like, you know, the other four. Hmmm, but it will be interesting to see what those costs look like if they’re going to go ahead with it
03:19 And
a kind of construction. Microsoft has been pretty deliberate about deploying its data centers and rolling them out when needed. They’re still spending billions and billions of dollars, but they’re not doing it at the rate of say Google or meta. They really take a more measured approach to what they need to build and why. So, it will be interesting to see how this kind of jux stance looks next to what the meta or Google might post.
